An urban explorer in Yorkshire, England discovered a “time capsule” in an abandoned house that has been left untouched for 19 years.
Daniel Sims, from West Yorkshire, discovered several possessions left to decay that belonged to the owner of the home. And plants were seen growing up the walls.
The property, which Sims, 32, entered through an open window, once belonged to a woman named Anne who lived in the house alone after her husband’s passing. She later died in 2003, according to Jam Press.
Since her death, the house has been left to crumble, with all of her possessions still inside.
Sims took viewers inside and gave a tour of the home on YouTube, along with some of his other explorer friends. During the tour, they discovered a wooden cabinet filled with letters. Family pictures were displayed on the top of the cabinet with layers of dust evident.
“It’s absolutely crazy the amount of stuff that’s been left behind here,” Sims said in the video. “It’s so sad to think if you die and there’s nobody here to come and get your belongings it’s just all left.”
Coats are still hung up in the hallway, toothbrushes are still laid out in the bathroom, and dishes are piled up in the kitchen.
The home appears to have been entered by vandals previously, as graffiti is observed painted on the walls.
Black and white photographs appear in one of the bedrooms. Old records, shoes and other possessions are seen, which Sims describes as a “time capsule,” noting that there hasn’t been any updates to the home since the early 1990s.
He also found a Daily Mirror newspaper from 2002 and handfuls of Christmas cards.
Sims and his friends describe the residence as “the house of sadness” due to its deteriorating state and no one left to take care of it.
“A wave of excitement rushed over me [as we entered] as this was my first time seeing a place like this which is commonly referred to as a time capsule and a glimpse into someone’s life,” Sims explained.
“Inside everything from Anne’s life was left from pictures to bathroom supplies and her teeth which was super creepy,” Sims explained. “Old ornaments and her clothing still hung up in the wardrobes and old letters written and received. The kitchen was full of food still unused and rotting away which suggested that the property was vacated suddenly and just left.”
He continued: “The house itself on the upper floors was collapsing and falling apart due to nature retaking over, It was really weird seeing all these memories and life laid open and bare like this for all to see and incredibly sad to see the place left to rot and decay.”
