Hear Venom Prison's Snarling New Song "Nemesis"

U.K. death-metal miscreants rail against narcissists on groovy 'Erebos' banger

Next month, U.K. death-metal rabble-rousers and Revolver faves Venom Prison will unleash their new album Erebos, the follow-up to 2019's Samsara. So far, the first two singles — November's pulverizing "Judges of the Underworld" and December's unexpectedly melodic "Pain of Oizys" — were wildly different from one another, and "Nemesis," the one they've shared today (January 13th), adds yet another dimension to their sound.

Here, the band fronted by Larissa Stupar doubled down on the Fear Factory influence heard on "Judges" and crafted a bona fide groove-metal banger. It that has all of the heaviness of their death-metal origins and plenty of technical shredding, but Stupar's screamed refrain is viscerally catchy in a way their old stuff wasn't. It's a cool new direction and you can listen above while you watch its eerie music video.

"This song is about the urge to hurt the person who has caused you irreparable harm and has changed your life forever," the band commented. "It deals with having been left to fix the damage done to you all by yourself. This specifically relates to experiencing narcissistic abuse and the trauma resulting from it."

They continued, "Narcissists tend to pick empaths as their victims because they are emotional sponges who can absorb feelings from other people easily and this makes them very attractive to narcissists as these people will fulfill all of their needs in a selfless way. This results in a parasitic relationship. With 'Nemesis' we wanted to capture the emotions of aggression, determination and pain in a more traditional Venom Prison manner. Bringing you brutal moments, energetic pace and the head banging assault of heavy metal."

Erebos — out Feburary 4th via Century Media Records — is available for pre-order in an array of collectible formats including a limited-edition "emerald green" vinyl variant that's currently only available at the Revolver and BrooklynVegan shops. The colorway is limited to 500 worldwide — order yours now before they're gone!
