Poirier has since teased a debut at welterweight and has been in rumoured talks to fight Nate Diaz.

Whatever the case, he looked to be piling on the pounds in his most recent Instagram post, which was captioned: 'Bulking SZN'.

Diaz, 36, and Poirier, 32, were set to fight in 2018 at UFC 230 until it was cancelled.

The pair have rivalled ever since and both recently opened the door to reviving their grudge match.

Poirier later revealed the UFC had approached him for a 'super short-notice' fight with Diaz, which he was willing to accept.

On Teddy Atlas' podcast, Poirier said: “No contract has been signed yet, but if this does go through I’m going to take it.

"This would be super short-notice. I already looked myself in the mirror. I spoke to my wife and my boxing coach, people I talk to regularly.

"I talked to my coach Mike Brown as well. They’re behind me if I decide I to take this fight.

"But I have to look myself in the mirror and ask, ‘Do I want to take this fight.’ I did exactly that. I looked in the mirror and I just felt good. I want to do it.”

According to Cageside Press, Poirier and Diaz will potentially feature on the UFC 272 card on March 5.

Rumoured to be headlining the event are former friends-turned enemies Jorge Masvidal, 37, and Colby Covington, 33.
