Well, we didn’t have to wait very long for Nintendo to reveal when we’re going to get Kirby and the Forgotten Land this year! The company has announced that the title will be officially launching on March 25, which is a mere two months from now, and will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. To further the anticipation, Nintendo also announced the celebration of the Kirby franchise itself, which has reached its 30th Anniversary, a testament to one of the longest tenured franchises and one of the most enduring characters that Nintendo has ever created.
Nintendo also gave us a brief trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which shows us some new copy abilities for our favorite pink ball, as well as some two player co-op gameplay. As for the main story, Kirby is tasked with finding a plethora of Waddle Dees that have been taken by an evil force known only as the Beast Pack, and will have some assistance by a new companion known as Elfilin. The second player will control a bandana wearing Waddle Dee who uses a a spear to create distractions and damage. Even Kirby’s longtime rival/nemesis Meta Knight makes an appearance here, although we don’t know the full extent of his purpose just yet.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land was initially announced during the Nintendo Direct in September, with those in the video game community showing a great interest in a potential open world Kirby title. As we already mentioned, the title is launching in the midst of the Kirby 30th Anniversary Celebration, which Nintendo will be conducting for most of the year. The actual anniversary of the series lands on April 27 in Japan, or for North America August 1 and the rest of the world on August 3. On those dates the very first title in the series, Kirby’s Dream Land, released for the Nintendo Game Boy.
For the time being all we have is a special wallpaper that Nintendo has made available for everyone to grab, but they did state that there will be more activities in the coming days and months. Quite frankly, we’re very excited to celebrate the series’ 30th Anniversary, and we really can’t wait to get our hands on Kirby and the Forgotten Land which officially launches on March 25 for the Nintendo Switch.
