Leica Unveils the M11, the Most Flexible M-System Camera in Its History

Few camera companies have the recognition and respect that Leica has. While it first started selling premium digital cameras in 2006, the German standout had been a photography staple since the 1800s. As long as it has been operating, Leica has been raising the standard for cameras. Today marks another step in its journey of excellence as Leica unveils its newest digital camera on its lauded M-System, the M11, a revolutionary model that marries traditional rangefinder photography with modern digital camera tech.

Promising maximum flexibility to every photographer, not just the pros, Leica’s M11 is loaded with cutting-edge, game-changing technology. It features a triple resolution sensor, expanded ISO range, dual memory, extended battery life, and an easy-to-use interface, allowing novice photographers with deep pockets to enjoy the greatness that Leica brings to the table. The keystone of the M11 is its full-frame BSI CMOS sensor, which allows users to record either raw images or JPEGs at 60, 36, or 18 megapixels while still using the full sensor. One of the real breakthroughs of the M11 comes in its ability to record ultra-sharp 60-megapixel images thanks to the newest APO Lenses for its M-System. Moreover, the M11 also features an IR + UV cut filter that not only corrects incident light and glare but also offers enhanced color reproduction. With shutter speeds of up to 1/16,000 of a second, Leica’s latest model lets photographers shoot with more opened apertures without the need for ND filters. Furthermore, the M11’s touchscreen has 2.3 million pixels for a precise picture that can show virtually every detail of your shot. Despite the stellar resolution, depth of color, and dynamic range of stops (up to 15!), the M11’s Maestro III processor keeps the response time of the system minimal, allowing for a seamless experience.

Aesthetically speaking, the M11 retains the classic, compact Leica design, coming in either all-black or chrome. The black variant includes a scratch-resistant top plate that’s made of aluminum and is 20% lighter than its chrome counterpart, which features a brass top plate. Leica’s M11 camera retails for $8,995.
