The Scream franchise is coming back from the dead with another movie called Scream (which is technically Scream 5). The new movie sees franchise favorites like Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette return alongside a new batch of characters who will be facing off against Ghostface.
The world has changed a lot since the last Scream film came out in 2011. When Scream 4 was released, streaming services were in their infancy, with only Netflix and Hulu in operation.
Cut to 2022, and we are in the "streaming wars," with the big companies either launching their own streaming services or fighting for the major film and TV releases.
As such, it can be difficult for the average viewer to know when their favorite movies will be streaming. Luckily, in the case of Scream we know exactly where and when viewers will be able to watch it online.
Where Will Scream Be Streaming?
The Scream films are distributed by Paramount. Despite this, the movies are spread across multiple streaming services. The first and second are on Peacock in the U.S., the third is on The Roku Channel and Starz, and Scream 4 is on Showtime due to deals made before Paramount launched its own streaming service, Paramount+.
These deals, however, don't include the 2022 Scream, which is confirmed to be coming to Paramount+. In February, the studio announced that all of its future films would stream exclusively on its own service.
This includes not just Scream, but the studio's other major releases of the year, which include Top Gun: Maverick, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Mission: Impossible 7.
When Will Scream Come to Paramount+?
The usual gap between a film being in cinemas and coming to a streaming service is seven months – a film gets a 90-day theatrical window, then a video on demand and physical media release, followed by a streaming release four months later.
Following the pandemic and the release of streaming services owned by companies like HBO Max, Disney+ and Paramount+, however, many studios have decided to shorten this window significantly.
So it is with Scream. The film is expected to follow Paramount's plan of releasing its major films onto streaming 45 days after they come to cinemas. The first film to do this was A Quiet Place Part II, with came to the streamer part-way through 2021.
If the film takes this path, then its Paramount+ release date will be on the last day of February: Monday, February 28, 2022. However, this may not be confirmed until the streamer releases its February schedule later this month.
Scream is in cinemas now.
