In just a few days, health insurance providers will have to cover at-home COVID tests or provide reimbursement.
Under the new federal guidelines that take effect Jan. 15, you can be reimbursed for up to eight tests a month.
The Biden administration said its goal is to remove financial barriers and increase access to testing.
Local software designer Scott Krager said after hearing the news, he developed a website that makes it easier than ever to find at-home tests.
“It’s pretty clear that the next few months there’s going to be a huge surge for people looking for these at-home tests and having one spot to be able to order some and get them delivered to you and then go through your insurance provider to get reimbursed, seemed like a good idea,” said Krager.
The site connects you to five different sites, including Walmart, Amazon, Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid. The page continually refreshes showing you in real time what’s in stock online.
“I went to several different locations of Walgreens and Fred Meyer before I found one,” said Georgene Rice, who said she needed a test before she traveled a few weeks ago.
She said a website like this would be handy.
“I think it would have helped quite a bit because I did have to travel a great distance before I found what I needed,” said Rice.
Krager said for him, having at-home tests put him at ease.
“With omicron being so transmissible, it’s a nice piece of mind before you head out,” he said.
