Two Red Notice Sequels Are Being Developed for Netflix
Not one but two sequels to the hit 2021 Netflix film, Red Notice, are being developed and will most likely be filmed together.
When the 2021 audience pleasing success Red Notice premiered on Netflix, it scored some of the best viewing numbers seen by the streamer so it’s no surprise that a pair of sequels to the hit film have been planned. As it stands, Red Notice is at a 37% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes but, nevertheless, the picture became the most watched movie on Netflix. Now, two sequels are in development for the film with some creative ideas flowing on where to take the film series.
It seems the principal original cast is wanted back for the sequels. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds were featured in the first movie and the hope is to bring them back alongside some other big-name stars as well. It is also hoped that the sequels could be made consecutively and be filmed in 2023.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Ryan Reynolds were big at the box-office this past summer with their successful theatrical pictures, Jungle Cruise and Free Guy, respectively. However, the pandemic may have lessened the greatness of the financial numbers which were tallied for those two films. Still, those movies’ solid performances in theaters may have foreshadowed a successful run for Red Notice. In an interesting side note, Red Notice opened in a bit of theaters slightly before it premiered on Netflix. It didn’t do too well so when it became a huge success for the streamer, it was a bit of a pleasant surprise.
Rawson Marshall Thurber who directed Red Notice has started writing the sequels. It’s no surprise that the first film cost $200 million to make when considering the huge movie stars attached to the project. It may cost even more than that to make the sequels, but Netflix can rest easy knowing there is an at home fan base for the material.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is said to be interested in a sequel and with his tremendous star power and the film’s smashing Netflix performance being taken into consideration, these movies should get made as planned. It’s the other cast members that the filmmakers hope to add to the franchise that are of interest right now as well. Who will they be? Only time will tell.
The film’s female star, Gal Gadot, is currently hoping to bring another Wonder Woman movie to the screen and is also featured in the soon to be released Death on the Nile. Let’s not mention Gadot’s recent casting as the Evil Queen in Disney’s Snow White live-action remake.
Red Notice had so many attractive performers wearing terrific outfits that it was clear that audiences would respond well to the film regardless of what the critics said. Look for the sequels to start shooting some time in 2023. More news will be revealed as it is made available.
