The sporty compact sedan and hot hatch segment have stayed alive and well over the years thanks to hot entrants like the Volkswagen GTI and Honda Civic Type R. However, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N was recently added into the mix and it brings with it punchy performance and a competitive price tag. But just how much does a fully loaded Elantra N cost?

If you’re in the market for a 2022 Hyundai Elantra N, then you’ll be happy to know that it’s easy to shop for as it only comes in one trim level. The starting price for an Elantra N is $31,900, excluding any freight and destination charges. That price will net you all of the go-fast goodies that the car has to offer, including a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission. The only real option box to check is for the available 8-speed dual-clutch transmission on Hyundai’s configurator.

Otherwise, the only other choices you get to make for your Elantra N is which exterior color you want. In that area, you’ll have five different colors to choose from. But the good news is that you can pick any interior color that you desire, as long as it’s black. There are also option boxes for a cargo net, cargo side bins, and a rear bumper applique. With everything selected, the 2022 Elantra N carries a fully loaded price of $33,670 (before the $1,025 destination charge), which undercuts the Civic Type R by a few thousand dollars and is on par with the 2022 Volkswagen GTI.

What features does the Elantra N come standard with?

Since the 2022 Elantra is only available in one trim level, it comes with everything you need in a pocket rocket sedan. Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter direct-injected engine that produces 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque. As stated before, that powerplant is connected to a standard six-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic. No matter which transmission you choose, the power is routed to the front wheels and is properly dispersed thanks to an electronic limited-slip N Corner Carving differential and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires wrapped 19-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Elantra N has two front sport seats with large bolsters to hold you in when cornering, a set of sport pedals, and a few N badges scattered about the cabin. You’ll also find a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system in addition to a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. Android Auto and Apple Carplay are standard as is a suite of driver-assist features that notably includes forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, and a parking distance warning.

How does the Elantra N compare to the Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen GTI?

While the Elantra N provides a great value proposition when it comes to its price, it’s also competitive when it comes to performance. The 2022 Volkswagen GTI’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine pushes out 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, while the 2022 Civic Type R is slated to produce around 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque just like the current version, but possibly more. Regardless of the numbers, it’s clear that the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N brings a lot to the sport compact table when it comes to value. Fortunately, it doesn’t cost too much to fully load one up and get the most for your money.
