Today we are saying goodbye to the Ford Edge, an underrated SUV that’s about to bite the dust. You could say that it’s being edged out of the market. Alright, so it may be a little too soon for Ford Edge puns, but let’s see why this SUV is getting the ax.

The Ford Edge is discontinued in America

A few months back, the next-generation Ford Edge was canceled, and it was upsetting. We were stoked to see what the new generation would bring. Now we won’t even get to see the new Ford Edge in America because it has officially been discontinued after the 2023 model year.

Ford just doesn’t seem to have the space to manufacturer the new model. The Edge and Lincoln Nautilus are currently being built in the Ford Oakville Assembly Plants. Ford and Unifor, the Canadian union, agreed to renovate the plant to manufacture five new electric vehicles in 2025.

So, there isn’t a place for the Edge and Nautilus to go at the moment. Production of the Edge will continue in China for now. But the redesign and new platform have been canceled.

Is the 2022 Ford Edge worth buying?

The 2022 Ford Edge is an excellent SUV to consider. Just because it’s being dropped to make room for more EVs doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy it before it bites the dust. It received a few updates to consider.

You can get started in a 2022 Edge for about $35,395, and it comes with standard all-wheel drive. This is an excellent perk. Plus, the entry-level SE trim can be paired with the Black Appearance package that adds 19-inch wheels and tons of black exterior accents.

The SEL trim gained the optional Adventure package. It consists of 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, faux leather upholstery, and black and grey exterior accents.

With the 2.0-liter four-cylinder base engine, you get 250 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. If you want more juice, upgrade to the twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine with 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.

It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds, but the acceleration has a bit of delay. The steering and handling are responsive, and the Edge provides confident braking. It has a smooth ride over most impacts and a peacefully quiet interior.

Does the Edge have good features?

Yes, the 2022 Ford Edge is value-packed. It provides an outstanding amount of passenger and cargo space. You can access 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 73.4 cubes total.

Each model includes a massive 12.0-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It uses the latest Ford Sync 4A software for faster response times. You can opt for a Wi-Fi hotspot and built-in navigation.

The interior provides a simple yet upscale design with high-quality materials. It’s comfortable for daily driving and road trips. Also, the storage cubbies provide plenty of space for personal items. Standard safety features include automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Despite being discontinued, the Ford Edge is a well-rounded SUV to consider with tons of value. If Ford didn’t need space for its electric vehicle mission, then we’re sure that it would have stuck around in America for years.
