Former EastEnders star Nina Wadia has delighted fans by reuniting with her former on-screen husband.

On Twitter, Nina shared a picture of her and Nitin Ganatra, who played Masood Ahmed, after the pair bumped into each other in London.

She captioned the photo: "In a city of 8.9 million people… it was bound to happen at some point! @GanatraNitin #fated #zainabandMasood #eastenders #memoriesaremadeofthis."

Nina left Albert Square in 2013 following the breakdown of her character Zainab's marriage to Masood.

Most recently, Nina appeared as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, where she paired with pro dancer Neil Jones. Sadly, the couple were the first to be eliminated in the series.

Last year, Nina confessed that she has been asked to return to EastEnders before and knows she'll join the soap again "in the future".

Nina also revealed her return would have to be a "joint decision" with the EastEnders team.

"I know I'll step back into the Square in the future," she said. "I've been asked back a couple of times but the timing wasn't right. It has to be a joint decision between EastEnders and me."

Nina's comments follow her previously confirming that she was asked to return to the Square in 2016, but turned it down.

She said back then: "They [BBC bosses] did [ask me back] last year, actually they did.

"But I was doing a pilot out in the States and I said I couldn't do it, I'm still waiting to hear on that [pilot]."

Nitin, who left the soap in 2019, has also previous spoken about the possibility of a comeback for Masood, after the character left Albert Square for Australia.

The actor said: "Masood is lovely. I love him, and I still think there's much to find in him, and I have a lot of respect for EastEnders and the way they really work hard at producing stories that keep people interested.

"So who knows, one day I'll go back… if they want me, as well."

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
