Hawaii Five-0 alum Beulah Koale is set to resurface in the Aloha State with a role on CBS‘ NCIS: Hawai’i — and TVLine has exclusive details and a first look at his multi-episode gig.
In the episode “Spies, Part 1” — now airing on a special night, Sunday, Jan. 23, following the AFC Championship football game — Jane Tennant’s NCIS team will investigate the mysterious death of Navy engineer Joseph Chan, learning that the last person he met with was Maggie Shaw aka Jane’s mentor and friend (played by returning guest star Julie White), who has since been kidnapped.
Koale in turn will play David Sola, a New Zealand intelligence officer who arrives in Hawai’i to follow a lead in a case that connects Joseph’s death to a Chinese black op.
LeVar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) directed “Spies, Part 1”; Koale will also appear in “Spies, Part 2,” which airs the following night, Monday, Jan. 24 at 10 pm.
Koale — who is himself a Kiwi — played Navy SEAL-turned-task force member Junior Reigns during Five-0‘s final three seasons.

Disappointed that he’s returning as Junior.
H50 and NCIS-LA were in same Universe due to a cross-over.. NCIS-50 is also in that universe since there will be an expected cross-over with NCIS.. It would be tough to cross Magnum which we know was in H50 universe due to different production companies… It does get confusing when there are multiple shows that are based in the same city or state…
Well, that is nothing new – “Ironsides” and “McMillian and Wife” were both from Universal Television (and aired on NBC) and both were set in San Francisco!
If he’s back as his Hawaii Five-O Role how are they going to explain Katrina Law not appearing as her 5-O Character?
He is playing a new character.
JAG spun off into NCIS, NCIS spawned NCIS: LA, NCIS: NOLA, NCIS: Hawaii; NCIS: LA saw two crossovers with Hawaii Five-O, one crossover with Scorpion, and a few with JAG; Hawaii Five-O crossed over with MacGyver and Magnum. If anything, Beulah Koale should be reprising his role as a member of Five-O or as a transfer from Five-O into NCIS.
Probably legal issues. Just look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_%26_Order%3A_Special_Victims_Unit#Casting to see what it took to bring John Munch onto SVU. Admittedly, that was to make the character a regular.
I’m assuming Kurtzman, Orci and presumably Lenkov would need to give their permission for the Five-0 or Magnum characters to appear on NCIS: Hawai’i. And of course, money would need to be paid.
I really liked him as Junior on 5-0. It would have been nice if he could have reprised that role. I didn’t care as much about Katrina Law’s character. I’d be fine with her NCIS character being a cousin or even not acknowledging Quinn. It’s not like the NCIS universe hasn’t used the same actors across shows in different roles. Diane from NCIS played someone else on NCIS: NO, which was ridiculous considering how prominent a recurring character Diane was.
As I said in the Levy Tran thread (she’s guesting on Magnum having been on MacGyver), I don’t like it either but it’s been going on for years. I think Zoe McLellan is still the only series regular on 2 shows (JAG and NCIS: NO) but there have been loads of repeat actors. Elisabeth Rohm was one of the worst ones for me, she was a prominent recurring villain on 5-0 then appeared on both NCIS and Magnum shortly after.
There’s also Katrina Law, regular on final season of H50 and now on NCIS.
Oh yeah, forgot about her.
.
I still remember Adam Baldwin playing a recurring character from JAG and the same character on NCIS, then Scott Lawrence who was a regular on JAG playing a completely different character on NCIS.
When I first saw the headline I was like yes!, Junior’s back! So, suffice it to say I’m a bit disappointed.
However, that won’t deter me from the episode, but it will be weird given that they are in Hawaii.
Hawaii Five-0 is dead and gone. Are the actors supposed to never work again because it destroys your fantasy universe? They have contracts with CBS . Most CBS dramas are somehow intertwined. Maybe instead of complaining and trash talking they should he happy they get to see their favorite actors in other roles. Personally, I believe they are more upset they won’t get an update on the H50 characters and are lashing out because of that. There were shows filmed in Hawaii before h50 and there will be others after. I am grateful the people of Hawaii have opportunities to work in the industry.
Dead and gone, but not forgotten…..nor the crappy way CBS handled it’s exit or the Lenkov situation. That’s the real reason for so much residual anger. Fans felt cheated, plain and simple, not to forget cast and crew were completely blindsided by the news. I’m glad Beulah has work, but it won’t make me what this show.
You are missing the point others are trying to make. NCIS HI is blatantly dismissing the crossovers that have taken place amongst the franchise in the past that would put it in the same “universe” as H50. Beulah was a major cast member of H50 for 3 seasons until the show’s end and having him play a different character is a travesty. NCIS HI is a weak show at best and can use all the help it can get. Why do i continue to watch, you ask? Because im from HI but this show certainly has not done me proud the way H50 and even MPI have.
I get it, truly I do. I agree with you. It just feels like one more way H50 fans (and the other shows mentioned) are getting jipped.
H50 Fan, I agree with you too! My reply above was actually in response to “Maria”; I think we have every right to complain about this stupid storyline. And just because H50 is gone it doesn’t mean the legacy it left behind should be dismissed or disrespected which i feel casting Beulah as someone else does!
Why he’s great…Many actors show up in different series as different characters, so what, as long as the actor is good. He’s not disrespecting anything , you people complain about everything… So happy B.Koale is in.
Totally agree. I can’t stand this practice at all, especially with a major character. I was happy to see Junior til I realised it wasn’t really him. It was crazy to not be him. I hated Quinn on H5O and I hate Katrina on NCIS too. And it massively annoys me she is also a new char as when I first saw her I’d thought she was still going to be Quinn, which would’ve been a bit better. Now she’s going to crossover there too, agrh. If people are going to create these shared universes they need to abide by that and stick to the continuity! Stop breaking the fourth wall! *I’m also looking at you Dick Wolf..
I was agreeing with IMA, the comment hasn’t posted under there though.
Wir wollen Haweii five-0 zurück mit neuen Folgen und Alex o’loughlin und Scoot caan und den anderen Team Mitgliedern.

I got excited, until I saw that he’s playing a completely different character. These shows exist in the same universe, you can’t do this to us CBS! This is the same issue as I think it’s the actor who played Desi now set to guest star as someone else on Magnum PI, when both that show and Macgyver are technically in the same universe (both have crossed over with H50). And Torres using the term Macgyvering during an NCIS episode.
I loved him on Hawaii 5-0. Glad to see his return to tv. Hope he stays. I do agree that it would have been nice for him to come back as Junior, he would have learned alot from McGarrett.😊
So Happy for Beulah Koale Yeaaa he found a job! He must be so happy working with the lovely Vanessa Lachey , Lucky him. They have a good one because he’s a great fighter and he’s all action love that guy. They should also bring in Meaghan Roth another great fighter These guys don’t fool around they bring in the action and that’s what needed, on this series so far they’re off to a great start keep up the good work…
I was a little disappointed it was not his junior character from h50 but am glad to see him still. Hope his character stays awhile.
Was a HUGE fan of Jr. and Tani on 5-0, am sooo glad to see him back in the Aloha state! Ian Anthony Dale, Yakuza turned 5-0 member is now on The Walking Dead with a full on British accent. Will always mourn Steve and Dano though.
