Woman injured in shooting during escape from boyfriend, Oakdale police say
A woman has been hospitalized after being shot at an Oakdale home by her boyfriend as she jumped through a window to escape. The suspected shooter later killed himself, authorities said.
Officers were called to a home on the 500 block of Laurel Avenue around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Oakdale police said in a release.
Officers found a 41-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her legs and pelvis. She was taken to a nearby hospital, police said. Her condition is not known at this time.
Investigators say the woman was in an argument with her boyfriend, 41-year-old Benjamin King, when he pulled out a gun and shot her as she jumped through a window to escape. She then ran to a neighbor's home for help, according to authorities.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff's SWAT team was called in. A perimeter was setup around the home on West A Street, according to authorities. The area of B Street and Eucalyptus Avenue, and California and Laurel Avenues was also blocked off — placing a nearby elementary school into lockdown.
On Wednesday morning, authorities deployed a drone to look inside the home and found King died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Authorities are investigating.
