Ubisoft has partnered with Pathé to create a VR title where they will be tasked with putting out fires at the famous Notre-Dame cathedral. The game is set to be called Notre-Dame on Fire. How very on the nose of them.

Notre-Dame on Fire is one-hour long experience that will take players through the events of April 15, 2019. This is the date that fires partially destroyed the real Notre-Dame. The entire thing is based off of Jean-Jacques Annaud's documentary of the same name.

Annaud had reached out to Ubisoft to help turn his work into something that more people could see and experience for themselves. A statement from Ubisoft to Variety says that their "special attachment to Notre-Dame" was why Annaud went to them and only them. Notre-Dame was featured prominently in Assassin's Creed Unity as well as another VR experience called Notre-Dame de Paris: Journey Back in Time.

What will you do and see during this one-hour long experience? Well, they're saying that this whole thing will be like an escape room. You will need to solve puzzles and cooperate with teammates. Also, you will have to "make your way through the cathedral to find relics and to fight the fire, because you have to save Notre Dame [before the clock runs out]." Whew. Glad they're gamifying this whole thing. Wouldn't want people to be bored.

Both Annaud's film and Ubisoft's game should be out in March some time. Discussions between Ubisoft and Annaud began in early 2021. Development began shortly after.
