This York couple might be the 'Worst Cooks in America.' Tune in to see how they do
From burning popcorn, to leaving the stove on all night, Bianca Bencosme and Hector Peralta are a happy couple, and a perfect match in every way – except in the kitchen.
Growing up in traditional Dominican families, with delicious food prepared by their mothers, Bianca and Hector never really learned to cook.
Before auditioning for the Food Network show "Worst Cooks in America," Bianca attempted to barbeque burgers one evening at her York home, which resulted in a fiery surprise.
"When you barbeque, it's meat in a grill with fire. Somehow the meat caught on fire, and I don't understand how that could happen," Hector said.
"I was cooking, and the flames were out of control, and I almost burned the house," Bianca said.
As fans of the show, and with four kids of their own, they knew it was time to try out and learn how to cook for their full house.
"I know when we talk about kids, you start wondering who exactly is feeding those kids," Hector joked.
For now, it's Bianca's mother who cooks for the family — but not for long.
Home cooks in need of help come from all over the country to compete in this elimination series, where the last two contestants standing have the chance to cook for culinary critics and win a cash prize.
Upon arrival, Bianca and Hector said they needed to prepare a dish for judges chefs Anne Burrell and Cliff Crooks, to prove just how much help they needed in the kitchen.
Bianca and Hector each prepared a Dominican dish consisting of meat and rice, and while Bianca's dish had some success, she says Hector's meat was a choking hazard for Chef Anne.
Despite their previous kitchen nightmares, Hector and Bianca said they had an opportunity to go on the show together and learn beside each other.
"We never thought we would have the chance to go together, but we were glad to have the opportunity to go together and learn together — it was a great experience," Hector said.
Viewers can watch Hector compete on the red team, coached by Chef Anne, and Bianca on the blue team with coach Chef Cliff Crooks, each Wednesday at 8 p.m. on the Food Network Channel and Discovery+.
