French onion soup is one of those dishes that has become a way of life for some people, when it comes to going out to eat at restaurants.

It's a popular soup in many parts of the country, and here in Buffalo, French onion soup is crazy popular. It's on nearly every menu of every local, sit-down restaurant in Western New York and some versions have become go-to orders for Buffalonians.

French onion soup is the perfect starter soup. The beef broth and sautéed onions with giant croutons, covered in a layer of cheese, and serving piping hot. It doesn't fill you up but hits the spot. If done properly, it can become addicting.

Having lived in Buffalo my whole life, I've tried so many versions of French onion soup over the years, but recently had one version that absolutely blew me away in not only taste, but presentation.

If you live in the southtowns, specifically Hamburg, then you likely know how popular JP Fitzgerald's is.

Located on Clark Street in the Village of Hamburg, JP Fitzgerald's is always packed with bar patrons and those looking for a nice dinner out with friends or family.

Their French onion soup is the best I've ever had. Sometimes, you get French onion soup and there's not enough onions, or the cheese is skimped on/falling off, but that was not the case here.

On looks alone, it's a home run, but after trying it, I immediately wanted another bowl or crock of it.
