Nominations for the 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced via Instagram Live on Wednesday, and HBO’s Succession led the TV field with five total nods.
Finishing just behind Succession with four nominations apiece were Netflix’s breakout smash Squid Game and Apple TV+’s one-two punch of The Morning Show and Ted Lasso.
Also of note: Paramount Network phenom Yellowstone made the Best Drama Ensemble cut for the first time; Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building managed three nods, including for leads Martin Short and Steve Martin; and HBO’s buzzy “limited series” The White Lotus netted two nods (for Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett).
The 2022 SAG Awards will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 8/7c — a return to normal-ish for the typically January-set awards, which last year were postponed until April due to COVID concerns. This year’s ceremony will take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

It seems a real shame that Selena Gomez doesn’t seem to be picking up any nominations for ‘Only Murders in the Building’ – she’s great in that show. This is not to play down Steve Martin or Martin Short: both are predictably great. But she holds her own more than admirably, and is just as strong as they are.
Thankfully she did get a Critics Choice nomination for her role. She was just as strong as they were. Great performance
So no nominations for ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, or the CW? Perhaps it is time for them to get their own award show much like cable had the Ace Awards before they were allowed to compete for the Emmys.
I agree, the original networks programs are ignored. Many should be recognized.
Original network programming should be recognized. There are many actors whose work should be rewarded.
Out of curiosity, what shows on those networks do you think should be nominated? I haven’t watched those networks in years because nothing seems interesting on them anymore. The only network shows I keep up with is This Is Us — which I don’t even really like anymore, but I’m continuing because it’s final season is airing. I just never feel like these networks shows have the same quality as streaming and premium. They all just seem to be the same iteration of another show on their network, i.e. thousands of spin offs of Law and Order, FBI franchise, Chicago franchise. So just curious. Because I see this comment ALL the time. People complain that network shows are cut out and yet nobody ever gives an example of quality shows that should be nominated and why. It’s almost like they want to complain for no reason. Not saying that you. Just saying in general. So what are some examples of things on network you think should be recognized?
I truly think the Good Doctor has exceptional actors. The new series Ghosts is very funny, as is Young Sheldon. I have loved Blue Bloods from the first episode and think they have great actors also. And even though FBI has the two spinoffs, the original show is outstanding.
Young sheldon is funny? Blue bloods and fbi are generic procedures. Those shows don’t deserve any awards.
I completely agree. Freddie Highmore is exceptional in that series.
I think Big Leap should get something in comedy.
I agree with you completely. Another test would be to look at the Emmys Best Drama nominees in 1998 and name a current broadcast drama that would replace it if the series aired in 1998. I picked 1998 because that was the year prior to The Sopranos being nominated for it’s first season.
The nominees were:
The Practice season 2 (winner)
ER season 4
Law & Order season 8
NYPD Blue season 5
The X-Files season 5.
While I think a good case can be made for This is Us season 6 replacing The X-Files or Law & Order,
I would have difficulty making a strong case for any other current broadcast drama.
Though no longer on, Parenthood deserved a nomination every year it was on & it always got overlooked. Excellent acting & storytelling!
pretty sure that would already make them the losers, lol
So Yellowstone gets a drama ensemble nomination which is good but no individual nominations? Weird! I’m more than half way into Only Murders in the Building & expected it to be much funnier. I think Steve & Martin got nominated because of who they are not because the show was that great.
It’s a shame Kelly Reilly and Kevin Costner are getting no love.. I am glad the show at least got an ensemble vote.
I am shocked there are no acting nods for Yellowstone. Kelly Reilly is brilliant as Beth.
It’s about time Yellowstone got recognized for this amazing cast, show & Taylor Sheridan!
About time some acknowledgement of how good Yellowstone is across the board!!!
Lol,it is tolerable at best….recent season was a chore.
Snub for Hamish Linklater for Best Actor Miniseries. I love Evan Peters but his screen time is questionable (I know there’s no supporting category).
Yellowstone. Yes, but no individual nominations. Kelly…wow.
SAG Awards really needs to include Supporting Actor/Actress categories. So many snubs because of supporting actors are getting nominated for the leading categories, some brilliant performances like Midnight Mass deserved recognition but the SAG Awards is a literal popularity contest
I don’t get the love with Squid Game and the pushing Gaga to win Best Actress. She’s great as musician but acting still not there yet.
I have to agree with you on Squid Games. Was the show a unique take on the “battle royale” genre? Absolutely! Was it compelling and addictive? 100%! Was the acting in it particularly good? No, not really.
Apparently none of the voters saw Midnight Mass
Can you believe this is the first time Succession has been nominated at the SAGs?
hooray for Yellowstone cast! I’m over the Morning Show, could’ve slotted in others.
Won’t be watching. Award shows have had too many political undertones, and lecturing. Wokism doesn’t belong in entertainment. What has happened to entertaining for the sake of entertaining ?
No interest in supporting Hollywood. I get enough politics on TV, print media.
I swear, Olivia Colman will be nominated for anything! That movie was terrible. One of those movies that critics love, but that was completely pointless and long and boring. Please stop nominating her for everything she’s in whether good or bad. Thank you.
Disagree, loved the film and loved her. But these are the tv awards 😀
The Morning Show was shockingly bad this year, however guess other actors are voting here so they might give them nominations for keeping a straight face while having to act it!
Is Yellowjackets not eligible this year?
Agree about The Morning Show. Truly dreadful this season. Jennifer Anniston was so over the top, she was basically a caricature of herself.
Hey for the first time in quite a while I’ve managed to see everything/one in a category, at least by the time of the award (tv movie/miniseries male actor… almost there for female actor, still need to watch Maid)
Also echoing prior year complaints of them not adding supporting categories, and not having an ensemble for tv movie/miniseries… Especially this year so that Midnight Mass could be on it.
Congratulations to the cast of
‘Squid Games’ especially Ms Ho YJ and
Mr Lee JJ ( nominations for Best Actors/
Actress)
It’s the first time in global
film/television industries that a
South Korean production has
gardnered such an alcodales.
Pride forward…
Yellowstone. Hideous show. Women are written badly, while the show is a love letter to guns and ammo. Sad this is what Costner came up with, after an outstanding career with films like Field of Dreams, Bull Furham and Dancung with Wolves.
Wouldn’t watch the awards show even if it was televised, based on the lacklustre nominations. Possibly the worst slate of candidates they’ve ever produced.
How is White Lotus a miniseries when they are announcing casting for season 2?
I’m afraid if I sacrifice myself, you’ll make a miracle happen. I’m afraid you won’t let that person die! Mom… Don’t die. It’s okay to curse at me and keep bothering me. haha
Some viewers are on a fixed income and can’t afford Netflix, Hulu , or other streaming services.. we can only afford regular tv. I am in that category of viewers, and I find many hours of entertainment with regular tv.
