Talking about how Spider-Man: No Way Hom changes Peter Parker's MCU status, Tom Holland admits he's glad to be moving on from a version of the character many fans have dubbed "Spider-Boy" in recent years.

While Marvel Studios' Spider-Man movies have received positive reviews from fans and critics alike, there are many who feel that mistakes have been made with the portrayal of Peter Parker in the MCU. Primarily, this is due to the way he's often come across as "Iron Man Jr." or "Spider-Boy," but Spider-Man: No Way Home went a long way towards allowing the character to finally grow up.

During a recent interview with Sony Pictures Japan, Tom Holland explained why he's also pleased to see that the traumatic events of this latest movie give Peter the chance to mature.

"It really has been the Spider-Boy, and this film is about him becoming Spider-Man," the actor says. "It’s about him growing up, making his own decisions, and stepping up to the plate as a full-blown Avenger. And it’s been really nice to have that dovetail between myself in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now who I am and who Peter Parker is in Spider-Man: No Way Home."

"[Spider-Man: No Way Home] is definitely the final chapter in the Homecoming series. Jon Watts has done such a wonderful job of creating this genre of superhero movies that kinda hasn’t been told before," Holland continued, addressing the character's evolution. "The superhero movie that’s about the kid...that is the small-town, really your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. This film is about him stepping into bigger shoes and becoming an adult and becoming Spider-Man."

With Spider-Man: No Way Home moving on from the Friendly Neighbourhood era, the stage is now set for us to get an Amazing version of this character. What that next trilogy will look like remains to be seen, though Spider-Man 4 is in the tentative stages of development at Sony/Marvel Studios.

Based on that closing scene, we're definitely getting a more comic accurate take on Spidey moving forward.

''really your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man''

This guy has been more in Europe, Space and out in the country than in his neighbourhood, but I agree it's great he really is Spider-Man now. Even if that means we won't be getting that John Hughes feel from Homecoming anymore.

@PantherKing - IMO the next movie should be street-level mobster villains (D’Onofrio's Kingpin, Hammerhead, Tombstone, Silvermane and Mr. Negative), with Black Cat (and maybe Charlie Cox's Daredevil) thrown to the mix.

@Fogs - If he is a man why did he pitch young adult James Bond to Sony. Why not pitch himself as Bond himself? Because he himself concedes he's still kinda playing boys on screen.

@KingLeonidas - Oh, ok. Thought we were talking about Peter Parker's character here.

@Fogs - No but the argument still stands. Holland by his own admission is exclusively playing boys on screen. So it negates his statement that he is SpiderMAN now rather than SpiderBOY. Even in Uncharted he's playing a boy. He is only ever playing boys. And his spider-*** is a boy too.

@KingLeonidas - Probably because he still looks super young so he’s using that as best as he can for his career. I mean clearly he’s not gonna pass as a fully realized James Bond lol

Glad we don't get any more overly intricate costumes, kinda sucks that it was an obviously CG render and we likely won't get a decent look at that costume until Spider-Man 4 set pics come out.

This whole thing I just find funny, like I can't complain that its happening, just that it was obviously not supposed to happen like this and pretty much every personal relationship Peter had was sacrificed in order to appease the fans. But hey, maybe we get to see him working at the Daily Bugle, that InfoWars adjacent site that literally ruined Peter's life...
