Jamie Lynn Spears just gave her first TV interview to Good Morning America following the end of her sister Britney Spears’ conservatorship. The interview comes amid Britney calling out Jamie Lynn and the rest of her family as well as backlash over Jamie Lynn not speaking out more during the #FreeBritney movement and backlash over her memoir, Things I Should Have Said (which she’s currently promoting).

“I was happy,” Jamie Lynn said when asked for her reaction to Britney’s conservatorship being dissolved. “First of all, when it was put into place, I was 17 years old, I was about to have a baby, so I didn’t understand what was happening nor was I focused on that. I was focused on the fact that I was a 17-year-old about to have a baby. I understand just as little about it then as I do now.”

Jamie Lynn also responded to claims that she was involved in Britney’s finances, saying, “There was no, like, me overseeing funds or something like that, and if that was, it was a misunderstanding, but either way, I took no steps to be a part of it.”

The author also claimed that she tried to give Britney resources to end the conservatorship, saying, “I’ve always been my sister’s biggest supporter, so when she needed help, I set up ways to do so, went out of my way to make sure that she had the contacts she needed to possibly go ahead and end this conservatorship.”

Back in July, Britney (who recently unfollowed Jamie Lynn on Instagram) posted, “I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes !!!!! My so-called support system hurt me deeply !!!!”

Jamie Lynn responded to the post on GMA, saying, “Honestly, it was somewhat confusing to me about that, and I actually have spoken to her about that. I was doing a tribute to honor my sister and all the amazing things that she’s done.…I have cleared up with the fact that I don’t think that she’s personally upset with me about that. Truthfully, I don’t know why that bothers her.”

Jamie Lynn ended the interview tearfully saying she loves her big sister. Britney herself has yet to respond.
