A man who was shot by his uncle after he allegedly attacked the relative appeared by video hookup in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.

Forty-three-year-old Jeremy Allen Woods of Calico Rock faces charges of third-degree domestic battering and violating a no contact order.

While entering his not guilty plea, Woods told the court his “alcohol problems” had been at the root of his often violent confrontations with his uncle. He continued to talk until James Wallace, his public defender, advised him not to say any more about his case.

In mid-November, Baxter County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting at Woods Feed and Farm Supply along Arkansas Highway 177 South.

They found Woods lying on his back in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder area.

The uncle and owner of the business said Woods had come into the establishment and said, “Now, you have a reason to have me arrested.”

A no contact order was in force at the time, in which Woods was ordered to stay away from his uncle and the relative’s business.

After Woods entered the store, he is reported to have sat down on the floor for a time. When he got up, he approached his uncle and is alleged to have said that he had time to beat up his relative before deputies arrived.

He is reported to have come behind a counter and attacked his uncle.

A witness, who worked at the store, said he was, “in the back working when (the store owner) called him on a radio and told him to come inside.”

The witness said he saw Jeremy Woods and his uncle fighting behind the gun counter. He said at one point Woods appeared to be reaching for a gun inside the counter.

The fight continued out the door and into the parking lot where the uncle shot Woods in the right shoulder.

According to the probable cause affidavit, there have been previous reports of Woods attacking his uncle.

There are no indications in court records as to the cause, nature or duration of the disagreement between uncle and nephew.
