[UPDATE: Officially Denied] Exynos 2200 Is Allegedly "Gone", Galaxy S22 May Utilize Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Globally

UPDATE: Samsung has reached out to Korean media, denying this rumor, basically. Samsung did confirm that the Exynos 2200 is delayed (it was supposed to arrive yesterday), but said that it will arrive in time for the Galaxy S22 launch. It did not mention the Galaxy S22 by name, but it implied it, while adding that there are no problems with the AP’s production or performance.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Yesterday, we published news based on a report saying that the Exynos 2200 launch is postponed. The source claimed that there were significant issues over at Samsung LSI that led to that. Well, a new report just surfaced, claiming that the Exynos 2200 is “gone”, so the Galaxy S22 may utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 globally.

This information comes from a tipster from South Korea called ‘Dohyun Kim’. He published the information on Twitter. He said that the Galaxy S22 series will utilize a Snapdragon SoC in the US, Europe, and Korea.

He added that the Exynos 2200 may be released at a later date, but not in time for the Galaxy S22 launch. If this is true, then it is kind of shocking. The Exynos 2200 was supposed to be Samsung’s first SoC with an AMD GPU.

Many people had high hopes for that processor, and expected to see it in the Galaxy S22. If this information is true, however, Samsung will need a ton of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips.

The chip shortage is still a thing, and asking for that many chips from Qualcomm may prove to be a problem. We’re only guessing here, considering the situation. Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphones sell in many units throughout the year, so Samsung will need a lot of chips.

Now, the Exynos 2200 launch was originally planned for November last year, allegedly. That launch got pushed back, and the chip was expected to launch yesterday, actually. Samsung teased its launch at all. Well, that didn’t happen.
