LG's new premium infotainment system will be in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS EV sedan

LG has announced that its newest premium in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system will be present in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS EV sedan. LG worked with Mercedes-Benz to deploy its software in the vehicle which features a Pillar-to-Pillar (P2P) display built in the MBUX hyperscreen that stretches across the entire dashboard.

According to LG, the MBUX Hyperscreen was unveiled by Mercedes-Benz at last year’s CES and features an LCD, an Instrument Cluster Display (ICD), and two OLED displays – a Central Information Display (CID) and Co-Driver Display (CDD). These are all housed under a bonded glass cover making them look like one continuous display.

To help adapt its IVI to this display, LG’s Production Engineering Research Institute (PERI) provided in-house expertise for equipment, material components, and advanced production techniques. PERI ultimately developed core technology in the display including Curved Glass Forming, Surface Treatment, and Curved Display Bonding.

Commenting on the new, Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle component Solutions Company, said:

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to work in close collaboration with a trusted partner such as Mercedes-Benz AG. Being named a valued supplier of automotive displays by Mercedes-Benz AG last year gives us immense pride in knowing that the partnership is showing great results.”

More vehicles in the future will come with LG solutions as the firm’s Vehicle component Solutions Company continues to work with car manufacturers around the world.
