Learn more in the video above.An investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.Grab the WVTM 13 app for the latest updates on this developing story.— An investigation is underway in Hueytown after a toddler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Tuesday morning.The Hueytown Police Department said officers and firefighters responded to the 1400 block of 26th Avenue at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday on reports of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At the scene, officers found a 2-year-old had been shot.Hueytown fire personnel attempted life-saving efforts and transported the toddler to Children's Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.HPD said the initial investigation shows the toddler found a family member's weapon and discharged it.Hueytown police and the Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner's Office are investigating.Release from Hueytown PD:"At 11:35am today, Hueytown Police and Fire responded to the 1400 block of 26th Avenue on a report of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Officers and medical personnel arrived to find a two year old child shot. Hueytown Fire immediately began attempting life saving efforts. The child was transported to Children's Hospital by ambulance where they were ultimately pronounced deceased. Initial investigation shows that the child found a family members weapon and discharged it. This case is currently under investigation by our detectives and the Jefferson County Corner’s Office.
