Netflix’s Kanye West Documentary ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ Releases New Teaser

Netflix has released a new teaser trailer for its upcoming documentary series about Kanye West, according to Variety. Titled Jeen-yuhs, the documentary aims to introduce the audience to a more personal side of Kanye’s life. The series consists of three parts. It will launch on Feb. 16 via Netflix.

The trailer begins with a video clip from 2002. In a New York apartment, the 25-year-old Kanye was asked: “Who are you to call yourself a genius?” As the trailer goes, it shares us more details about the documentary. It will feature a three-week event, and it took 21 years to make. In one scene, we see Kanye standing in front of his Chicago home, the one that he grew up in. We can also see a few other famous faces making cameos, such as Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams. However, the end of the trailer features a recent clip of Kanye, indicating that the documentary is not only about the past, but also about the present.

Kanye West is one of the most acclaimed and best-selling musicians of all time. He has won 22 Grammy Awards throughout his career at this point. His 2021 album Donda is up for five nominations at the 2022 Grammys. Last year, West won his first gospel Grammy and 22nd career Grammy for his Jesus Is King album, marking the first time since 2013 that he has received the award.

Kanye’s movie-like life story has always been fascinating to his fans. Came from the south of Chicago, he managed to become one of the most successful and influential musicians in the world. He then continued to build his way from a singer to a businessman and with a global brand. However, his life is also filled with controversies. In 2020, he even launched a presidential bid, though failed momentarily. This documentary will tackle all these important moments of Kanye’s life. Moreover, it will talk about the death of Kanye’s mother, a tragedy that has haunted him for over a decade.

Clarence “Coodie” Simmons (Benji) and Chike Ozah (Soul City) will direct the documentary. Part one of the trilogy will have a virtual world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month.
