Three Caldwell students sentenced on lesser charges

Three of the four Caldwell High School students accused in a hazing incident plead to lesser charges today.

Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey said Katherine Alayna Hart, 18, Marina Pilar Brinkman, 17, and Kadie Rose Hartman, 17, were each sentenced today in Judge Steve Young’s Court after pleading guilty to the Class A Misdemeanor, Unlawful Restraint.

The trio were each placed on 12 months deferred adjudication with standard probation conditions and cannot have any contact with the victim.

Torrey said they must also each perform 40 hours of community service and pay a $4,000 fine and restitution in an amount to be determined.

Hart, Brinkman, Hartman, and Sophie Goodman, 17, were each indicted last November on the charge of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity-Unlawful Restraint, a third degree felony.

All cour were originally arrested in October on the charge of Indecency with a Child by Exposure, also a third degree felony. They were released from jail after posting bond.

According to an arrest affidavit, a 14-year-old girl told a Caldwell ISD resource officer that one girl acted as a lookout and the other three girls held her down and pulled down her shorts and underwear.

The incident reportedly occurred Sept. 21 while on a Caldwell ISD bus near Cameron. All involved are part of the Caldwell volleyball team.

That resource officer forwarded the case to Milam County authorities, who investigated the matter and brought charges against the girls.
