NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KNWA/KFTA) — Numerous schools in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley have pivoted to remote learning due to the latest surge of COVID-19 in Arkansas.
The list will be updated daily as more schools continue to pivot and others return to in-person learning:
Arkansas Arts Academy: Will pivot to remote learning beginning on Thursday, January 13 through Friday, January 21.
Decatur School District: Pivot to remote learning Thursday, January 20, and Friday, January 21 due to a rapid increase in positive COVID-19 cases in students and staff. Students will return to onsite instruction on Monday, January 24. Students may pick up breakfast or lunch from 10 a.m. to noon in front of the high school cafeteria during the two remote learning days.
Farmington School District: Pivoting to remote learning due to staff and substitute shortages on Thursday, January 20, and Friday, January 21. All students will return to onsite instruction on Monday, January 24.
Gentry School District: Gentry High School pivots to off-campus instruction beginning January 19. Students will return Monday, January 24. The pivot includes a pause of all athletic activities until classes resume.
George Junior High School: Temporarily transition to AMI Jan. 20 and 21. after a spike in staff absences due to COVID-19-related circumstances.
Meals will be available upon request for pivoted students. The school asks to have meal request forms completed by 8 a.m. each morning. Pick-up location details are included on the form. The library will be open each day for any student who needs a place to access technology and complete schoolwork. Contact the child’s campus office with questions.
Greenwood School District: Moving to online instruction for all students beginning Wednesday, January 19 through Friday, January 21. Daily instruction will be delivered through online platforms as directed by teachers. These are Alternative Methods of Instruction days and will count as a regular school day.
School offices will be open Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m to 4 p.m. to assist students or families with devices and answer technology questions as needed.
Huntsville School District: Closed for on-site instruction Jan. 20. Students will complete AMI lessons posted in Google Classroom. All schools will remain in remote learning on Friday, January 21 due to winter weather.
J.B. Hunt Elementary: Temporarily transition to AMI on January 14 due to a spike in staff absences from COVID-19 related circumstances. There is a significant substitute shortage and classrooms are not able to be adequately covered.
Siloam Springs School District: All Siloam Springs Schools will return to on-site learning Thursday, January 20.
Southwest Junior High: Temporarily transition to AMI Jan. 20 and 21. after a spike in staff absences due to COVID-19-related circumstances.
Springdale Schools: Helen Tyson Middle School will temporarily transition to AMI (remote learning) on Tuesday Jan. 18 and Wednesday Jan. 19. J.O. Kelly Middle School will temporarily transition to remote learning Wednesday, Jan. 19 through Friday, Jan. 21.
University of Arkansas Fort Smith: In-person classes will resume on Monday, Jan. 24 as planned.
Waldron Schools: Will resume classes Thursday, January 20.
West Fork Public Schools: Pivoting to remote learning on Thursday, January 20 and Friday, January 21. On-site instruction will resume on Monday, January 24.
Walter Turnbow Elementary: Temporarily transition to AMI on Jan. 14 due to a spike in staff absences from COVID-19 related circumstances. There is a significant substitute shortage and classrooms are not able to be adequately covered.
