iSeeCars: The Ford F-150 Is the Best-Selling Used Car in 30 of the Top 50 Metro Areas
Have you seen a lot of Ford F-150 pickup trucks around lately? There seems to be a trend, and that trend is the F-150. iSeeCars studied some of the major metro areas and found that people prefer this one truck over all other cars, trucks, and SUVs.
The Ford F-150 is the favorite used pickup truck
It isn’t the easiest time to buy a new car or a used car. The analysis by iSeeCars studied some major cities and drivers’ preferences in the area. iSeeCars studied 17.4 million sales in 2021 to see which cars were the most popular in which areas. This included looking at the U.S. in total, by state, and then by metro area.
The study included four SUVs, three pickup trucks, and three sedans that appeared the most during sales in 2021. These top 10 vehicles made up a whopping 21.2% of sales last year.

iSeeCars Executive Analyst, Karl Brauer, confirmed that the semiconductor chip shortage impacted sales last year. However, “The most popular vehicles remained consistent when compared with 2020. This is because automakers were able to prioritize the production of their most profitable vehicles over their slower sellers.”
The Ford F-150 is the most popular used truck in 30 out of 50 metro areas
The F-150 pickup truck is the most popular used truck in 30 of the 50 most populated metro areas. This includes places like Albuquerque-Santa Fe, NM, Austin, TX, Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX, Denver, CO, and Houston, TX. As far as new vehicles go, it takes the top spot in 17 of those 05 metro areas. It isn’t just a work truck anymore due to all of the options and configurations available. Plus, the active safety features are a major selling point.
It isn’t even just the Ford F-150 that is popular. The top three most popular used cars are pickup trucks. As noted in the table above, the most popular trucks are the F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and the Ram Pickup 1500. It just so happens that these three pickups are also the most popular new cars, as well.

There has been a lack of inventory all around lately, which includes new trucks. Due to this, people have been aiming to find a reasonably priced and reliable used truck. Demand for such trucks remains high while supply remains low.
Trucks remain the most popular vehicle choice
After 40 years, the Ford F-150 remains the most popular new truck as well. That is followed by three more trucks, the Ram Pickup 1500, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and the Toyota Tacoma in eighth place. The statistics at iSeeCars noted that there was a 15.7% decrease in sales volume in 2021 over 2020 due to the semiconductor chip shortages and other issues. Even with that decrease in production volume, the F-150 retained its spot for the 40th year.
The F-150 has a hybrid option now and the Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck has over 200,000 reservations thus far. That means the Ford truck is probably cementing its spot at number one for 2022 as well.
