An interesting detail here is that it's coming to PS4 (and therefore to PS5 via back-compat), but no bespoke PS5 edition. Yet, it is advertising specific Series X|S support, on top of Xbox One.

I wonder if that means a Series X|S edition written specifically for the platform, or if they're doing a back-compat+ edition for Series consoles? It's been suggested by some developers that back-compat+ tools are more robust on Xbox than on Sony. And Microsoft has been working to harmonize PC and Xbox Series dev tools.

I wonder if this is another sign of poor performance of indies on PS consoles, or if this is reflective of Microsoft making cross-porting games between PC and X|S easier than it is between PS5 and PC? Or if it's a little bit of column A, and a little bit of column B?

I doubt it's any kind of financial incentive by Microsoft because it is still coming to PS4, and it's not a Day 1 Game Pass release, so it doesn't have any of the hallmarks that you might expect Microsoft to want to pay for.
