Techland Clarifies Dying Light 2 Length Following Backlash - News

Developer Techland over the weekend revealed Dying Light 2 Stay Human will take 500 hours to 100 percent complete the game.

"To fully complete Dying Light 2 Stay Human, you'll need at least 500 hours—almost as long as it would take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid!" said the developer at the time.

Following backlash Techland has clarified the length of the game via Twitter. If players were to focus on the main story it will take about 20 hours to complete, while the main story and all of the side quests will take around 80 hours.

The 500 hours to 100 percent the game includes all main and side quests, choices and endings, checking every place on the map, every dialogue and finding every collectible.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human will launch for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 4, 2022.

Utterly ridiculous that there was "backlash" over this. It doesn't take much brainpower to understand what "fully complete" means. People who just want to play the storyline and then move on to the next game will obviously put in much less time. Those who like the world and want to keep playing in it for a long stretch will have plenty of extra content to chew on.

Kind of silly that there are people complaining about games that offer a lot of extra content. There are PLENTY of titles out there just for the "drive-thru" type gamer. Stop whining when there are games released that might not be directly targeted at you.

So outside of those 20 hrs, the rest are considered "junk" quests and content used as padding?, that's not really the trappings for good game design, Techland...

You could have just made it a 20ish hr game and trim the fat, and let it sell for what it is, not what it could be with 500+hrs of padding slapped on top.

I'm not sure if developers realize this, but 500 hours is actually a reason to not buy or play the game, its a huge time investment that no one wants to take. 500 hours would take me almost a whole year to finish the game, and I have at least 30-40 games that I want to play each year. Even if you were to play 3 hours per day it would still take you at least 4 months to 100%, its too much of a time investment when there's so many great games coming out in 2022.
And guess what, all of that would be a 50 hour game at best, with 450 hours of filler content that will get you bored as you repeat the same missions all over.

I am currently playing Kena and to be honest its the perfect game perfect length. A cheaper game with around 10-20 hours great content is really the perfect balance. I'll take a 30-40 hour game if its as good as skyrim or fallout 4, its all about having great content without too much repetition.

Talk about useless padding on open-world games.
The game is truly 20h.

I've been playing WoW since Vanilla, and while it has had tons of it's own type of padding, in recent years, they've actually introduced patched mid way and near the end of each expansion to cut some of the unwanted fat, making it easier for newcomers and those sticking around to get to and achieve the content they want faster.

AAA SP games do not do this, I don't think there has ever been a case where a AAA SP game has had hrs upon hrs of content removed through it's release to trim the amount of fat WoW has had to trim from itself for nearly 20yrs (by removed, I mean as voted by the public and all wanting said content removed by our choice, not dev decisions or publishers shutting stuff down, which we know happens to games, and not by our choice).

DL2 has yet to be released, but I feel it could be very possible for them to trim all this fat before release, and no one in the majority would really miss said content, considering how much backlash we've seen about this type of padding (the type we're currently tired of seeing).
