SECAUCUS, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Officials arrested a Georgia man found with a loaded handgun and illegal high-capacity magazines filled with illegal ammunition after a traffic stop in New Jersey on Monday, Police Chief Dennis Miller said.
At around 3:30 p.m., a police officer stopped Jzamere Woods, 21, driving a Nissan Altima for speeding on the Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus and developed information that there was a handgun in the vehicle, Miller said.
During a search of the vehicle, Officer Michael Borrellia seized a Glock 19 9mm handgun loaded with a 15-round magazine and around in the chamber, authorities said.
A 17-round and a 31-round magazine loaded with both hollow point and full metal jacket ammunition were also seized by Borelli.
Woods, a Georgia resident, was arrested without incident.
“This gun arrest is another example of the results of proactive policing efforts by members of the Secaucus Police Department,” Miller said. “Possessing a loaded firearm with these high-capacity magazines is testament to the potential dangers our officers are up against.”
Woods was taken to Hudson County jail where he was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of possession of a high capacity magazine, unlawful possession of hollow-point ammunition, and unlawful possession of handgun ammunition.
An investigation remains ongoing.
