The Royal Opera House is set to pay tribute to the late Bernard Haitink, former Music Director of the company.

The company will dedicate the current run of “Le Nozze di Figaro” to his memory and the performance of Jan. 11 will include a personal tribute from Music Director Antonio Pappano.

In a statement, Pappano noted, “Bernard was a towering musician whose warmth and total honesty in his music-making made his performances always ring true.”

Haitink died on Oct. 21, 2021 at the age of 92, and served as the Royal Opera House Music Director from 1987 to 2002. Throughout his career, he made over 450 recordings including works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, Mahler, Shostakovich, and Vaughan Williams. He also recorded the three Mozart/Da Ponte operas, and Wagner’s complete opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen.

The Royal Opera House’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” is set to be performed through Jan. 27, 2022.
