Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Mackenzie Boyd will grow jealous over his partner Charity Dingle and her ex-fiancée Vanessa Woodfield in a new storyline, following Vanessa's return to the village.

Former couple Charity (Emma Atkins) and Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) split up in 2020 when Vanessa found out that Charity had cheated on her with newcomer Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) and Vanessa had remained away from the village ever since, until she made an unexpected return recently.

There have been obvious tensions between Vanessa and Charity since their reunion as Vanessa has refused to let Charity spend time with her son, Johnny (Jack Jennings), who Charity adopted when she and Vanessa were still together.

In scenes to air next week, Johnny approaches Charity and asks her if he can have a playdate with her son, Moses (Arthur Cockroft). Unfortunately for Charity, she messes up and manages to put her foot in it with Vanessa again – causing tensions over their split to flare up all over again.

Later on, Mackenzie learns about the playdate and becomes jealous over Charity and Vanessa being in close contact again.

But does he have real reason to be worried about Charity and Vanessa, or is their romance truly over for good?

Actress Michelle recently spoke to Digital Spy about her return as Vanessa, revealing that her character really isn't keen on her ex spending time with Johnny.

"Vanessa's not into that at all," she said. "That's because Charity has not seen Johnny for such a long time and she's trying to protect him. I know there was the adoption before Vanessa left to go and see her mum, but I don't think Vanessa thinks it's healthy for Charity to be spending so much time with Johnny.

"Obviously they're going to be seeing each other because they live in the same village, but Vanessa's not a fan. Whether that changes or not in the future, I don't know, but certainly for now she doesn't want that to happen."

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Thursday, January 20 and Friday, January 21 on ITV.
