The Toyota Tundra has always been a popular truck, but not the most popular truck. That title has belonged to another truck for the last 40 years, but Toyota has big plans to try and change that. Toyota says the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone has a few secrets hidden under the hood that will help do just that.

“With enthusiasm for the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra already at a fever pitch, full-sized trucks now have a new entry at the upper echelon of the segment. The new Tundra Capstone grade provides a premium collection of features and upgrades for those looking to elevate their truck experience.”

One of the biggest advantages is the new 437 hp, 583 lb-ft of torque from the I-Force Max turbo-V6 hybrid powertrain hiding under the shiny hood. One of the issues previously has been that even with the top-level Tundra trims, the Big Three trucks have a lot more to offer. The 2022 Tundra Capstone is here to change that. Plus, other brands can’t really compete with the Toyota reliability.

The Towing Technology Package comes standard and includes Trailer Back Guidance for easy trailer maneuvering. Straight Path Assist feature can also help drivers back up in a straight line. An available 360-degree camera also aids in visibility.

Toyota says the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone trim is “loaded with luxury,” which is something the lineup has needed. The 22-inch chrome wheels are the largest wheels ever offered on a Tundra, plus they certainly catch the eye. The new Capstone-exclusive grille has a color-keyed frame and an inner-mesh pattern to stand out against other full-size pickup trucks.

While there are a lot of luxury upgrades to the Tundra, the new i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain is a huge step in the right direction. This brings a twin-turbo V6 engine to the table that has a secret weapon. The engine features a “unique motor generator within the bell housing between the engine and 10-speed automatic transmission designed to provide maximum performance and maximum efficiency,” Toyota says.

The frame is a new fully-boxed, high-strength steel frame. This allows the Capstone to tow a maximum of 10,340 pounds. The maximum payload is 1,485 pounds. The new hybrid system will also benefit those who plan on towing frequently. The new Sheet-Molded Compound (SMC) bed has reinforced aluminum cross members beneath the bed. The SMC bed will help reinforce against dents, dings, and rust.

The Toyota truck interior recieved a big upgrade too

The 2022 Toyota Tundra will also have automatic running boards and standard semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats. The black-and-white finish is available only on the Capstone trim. Dark American Walnut accents the rest of the interior. Plus, a new panoramic moonroof comes standard. The front windows will feature acoustic glass to help with exterior sound deadening.

A new 12.3-inch digital Multi-Informational Display helps upgrade the interior further. This is accompanied by the standard 10-inch color Head-Up Display. On top of that, a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen display comes standard on the Capstone. This will control the brand-new Toyota Audio Multimedia system.

And don’t worry, the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. This includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, emergency steering assist, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). Lane Departure Alert is included as well. Don’t wait to order the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone, we have a feeling it won’t be easy to find. The full-size Toyota truck is slated to hit dealerships this spring.
