Why 'NCIS' Didn't Air This Week – And When Episode 11 Will Be Released

NCIS Season 19 may have only just come back to CBS, but the show is already taking a break. The procedural returned on January 3 with an episode, but then skipped a week.

However, fans do not need to worry – CBS has already revealed the release date for NCIS Season 19, Episode 11 (titled "All Hands").

The next episode of NCIS looks set to be a dramatic one, with the team fighting a group of terrorists who have taken over a research vessel in the ocean.

If that whets your appetite, here's when you will be able to see that episode.

Why did NCIS Season 19, Episode 11 not air this week?

Basically, NCIS missing a week is part of the regular way that U.S. network TV works.

Your average TV drama is about 22 episodes long, but the average TV season runs from September to May – about 32 weeks. This means that a show has to take off a few weeks across the year.

Though most networks try to burn through a lot of these weeks by having their shows take a long break over the holidays, most shows still need to take the occasional week off.

NCIS is no exception. The show usually takes at least one week off over January. This is to allow them to have a full set of episodes for February, a month known as one of the "sweeps month" where ratings are more thoroughly scrutinised.

When will NCIS Season 19, Episode 11 air?

"All Hands" is just one week away. The episode's release date is set for Monday, January 17, when the show will air in its usual time slot of 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. ET before NCIS: Hawaii.

CBS has released a synopsis that gives fans a view of what to expect from the new episodes. That reads: "After a civilian research vessel in the North Atlantic picks up a small boat of wounded Navy officers, NCIS arrives on the ship and is forced to hide after discovering terrorists on board. Also, Agent Knight [played by Katrina Law] takes a paper doll with her on the mission to capture photos for her niece's grade school class."

As usual, that episode will air live on CBS. It will also stream live on Paramount+. Paramount+ is also the streaming home for NCIS. The episode will stream on demand on the service shortly after airing, alongside every other episode of the crime show.

After this episode, viewers are getting at least one more episode before the show takes another. That is the episode "Fight or Flight," coming to CBS on January 24.

NCIS Season 19 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on CBS.
