A serious crash that caused a car to split in half at Fowler and Thompson streets in downtown Fort Myers sent one person to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Fort Myers police confirmed the car was being driven at a high speed when the crash happened. Only one vehicle was involved, police said, and it came to rest in two pieces near the Melvin Morgan Constitutional Complex.
