By Francisco Salazar

St. Petersburg Opera Company in Florida is set to return to make its 2022 mainstage debut with three performances of George Frideric Händel’s “Semele.”

The opera will be presented on Feb. 4th, 6th, and 8th at the Palladium Theater.

Artistic Director Mark Sforzini and Stage Director Karl W. Hesser have put a 1930s spin on Händel’s baroque masterpiece with an elaborate art deco stage design and period costumes. The cast will star Holly Flack as Semele, Kyle Tomlin as Jupiter, Sarah Couden as Ino/Juno, Stephanie Jabre as Iris, Ryan Belongie as Athamas, and Christopher Nazarian as Cadmus/Somnus.

“Semele” is sponsored by Bud and Betty Shapiro and supported in part by the Florida Department of State Division of Arts and Culture, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, and the City of St. Petersburg.
