James Gunn Shares the Official Playlist for HBO Max’s Peacemaker

No James Gunn production is complete without an assortment of throwback jams complementing all the action. And HBO Max’s Peacemaker is no exception. The upcoming spinoff from The Suicide Squad is only three days away, but Gunn is giving fans the chance to sample some of the series’ music before it premieres on Thursday. Earlier today, Gunn took to social media to unveil the show’s official playlist on Spotify. You can check out his announcement below.

While Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies primarily featured songs from the ‘70s and ‘80s, The Suicide Squad had a more eclectic mix, with genres ranging from punk rock to contemporary hip-hop and beyond. However, the Peacemaker mix is bound to get the nostalgia flowing again with a wide-ranging collection of hair metal tracks. The playlist opens with Wig Wam’s “Do Ya Wanna Taste It,” which (according to critics) Peacemaker’s characters are shown dancing to in the series’ opening credits sequence. Listeners will also find contributions from recognizable artists like Foxy Shazam as well as lesser known acts like Bang Camaro and The Quireboys.

As noted by Gunn in his post, the playlist also features a brand new song written specifically for Peacemaker’s first season. Composer John Murphy teamed up with Steel Panther frontman Ralph Saenz (a.k.a. Michael Starr) to record a cover of Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” which may or may not put the original to shame (depending on your preference).

Peacemaker will air its first three episodes on HBO Max this Thursday, January 13. You can find the show’s playlist here.
