A Nampa man has been charged with first-degree murder for his role in the shooting death of another man at Hunter's Creek Park in Star on Christmas.
Originally, Dakota Travis Honeycutt was charged with assisting suicide and destruction of evidence--both felonies, but prosecutors upgraded the charge on Monday, the Ada County Sheriff's Office says.
"...Investigators collected more evidence in the case that showed Honeycutt planned the killing and did it with a shotgun that wasn’t his," the sheriff said.
Police say Honeycutt told detectives that he watched his roommate, Kevin Hunt, complete suicide and then left him at the park and drove away without telling anyone what happened. Hunt's body was found on a sidewalk the following morning.
He later told police that he tossed the gun used in the shooting in the Boise River before he went back to his Nampa apartment. The gun has since been recovered.
Deputies say they're unsure why both men were at the park since they both lived in Nampa and don't have any ties to the area.
Honeycutt is scheduled to be in court Jan. 31.
