The man who purchased an AR-15-style rifle for Kyle Rittenhouse pleaded “no contest” in a court hearing in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Monday to a reduced charge resulting in a noncriminal citation instead of prison time.
The plea by Dominick Black was accepted by Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder and included the dismissal of two felony counts of “intent to deliver a dangerous weapon to a minor.” The agreement with prosecutors was reached Friday, according to court documents.
“To go forward with these felony charges against Mr. Black, given the court’s legal ruling as well as Mr. Black’s cooperation and the jury’s decision in the Rittenhouse case, does not seem appropriate,” Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger said Monday, according to the Associated Press.

The reduced charge could have been considered a misdemeanor carrying up to nine months in prison, but with the deal, Black faces a county ordinance violation with a $2,000 fine.
Black was charged in 2020 on two counts of providing a firearm to a minor. He purchased an AR-15-style rifle for Rittenhouse, who was 17 years old at the time, making him too young to purchase the gun legally.
Rittenhouse brought the gun to a riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020 where he fatally shot two men and injured a third in what he argued was self-defense. Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all charges related to the shootings in October.

The rifle was considered evidence during the Rittenhouse trial, and it remains unclear what will be done with it.
Rittenhouse’s attorney, Mark Richards, said Rittenhouse wants it to be destroyed.
