The following contains spoilers from the season finale of Showtime‘s Dexter: New Blood.
If Dexter: New Blood gets renewed for a second season, how new do you want the blood to be?
After all, in Sunday’s finale, Harrison (played by The Good Lord Bird‘s Jack Alcott) killed Dexter (Michael C. Hall) with his rifle after discovering that his dad had murdered the guilty-of-nothing Sgt. Logan (Underground‘s Alano Miller). With Dexter’s code officially demanding scrutiny, father and son alike knew that his death was the only way out, for both of them. When Chief of Police Angela Bishop (Goliath‘s Julia Jones) arrived at the fresh murder scene, she — having come to realize all that Dexter Morgan/”Jim Lindsay” had done, dating back years and years — sympathetically handed Harrison some cash and told him to hightail it out of Iron Lake, for good.
And as the season actually faded to black, we saw Harrison doing just that, avoiding a police roadblock to simply motor away. And while there was no overt suggestion that the teen is due for his own (code-driven) killing spree, surely that is an option for any possible Season 2.
When TVLine suggested to New Blood showrunner Clyde Phillips that a second season might in fact follow Harrison, he said, “that’s not the first time I’ve been asked that,” but stopped well short of confirming that any such plan is in the works. Yet.
“It’s all in Showtime’s hands,” Phillips said. “If they were to call me and say, ‘We want to do Harrison. We want you to figure it out,’ I’m pretty busy, but I would drop everything I’m doing and jump right into it. I would love to do it, but it’s really up to Showtime.”
But is a second season following Harrison what Dexter: New Blood viewers actually want? If Season 2 did follow the serial killer’s scion, would you insist that Dexter serve as his Harry-like sherpa? or would you be OK with Harrison going it alone?
Or… do you adamantly believe that Dexter somehow cheated death in that season finale, and should continue to serve justice in his particular, bloody way?
Think about the Season 2 scenario(s) that you would be open to, and vote in our poll below (checking any answers that apply!).
Nah, the story finally got a reasonable ending. Leave it alone.
I agree that this ending ended it. I was hoping all through the season that it was leading to a second revolving around Dexter and Harrison. There was a lot of potential for story. Having chosen to kill Dexter takes away my need to see anymore. Rats!
Seriously 😒 they ended something they could have had for so many seasons more.. I waited for him to come back how many years now and they ended in 10 episodes that’s what was truly disappointing.. They can bring it back some how and they have to potential to do something amazing by doing so
I totally agree! I was so excited that he was back! This ending has upset me so and I hope they decide to let it be a fake death. I want DEXTER!
I watched seven of the eight seasons of the original show. Part of me wonders now that the original series ending has been told by the creator if they should just leave the story alone. The protagonist is no longer alive, but it might be interesting if they reveal he didn’t actually die.
Not sure how I would feel tbh. Michael C. Hall was THE guy for us. Performed the character so well and his death was not shocking. There were plot holes in the finale for sure. I like Jack Alcott as an actor and thought he did great. I just don’t see any future storylines as it’ll get too repetitive.
What about a choice of NO more seasons of dexter, its done, this season was just so-so to end things, no more please, I need to move on
You can just not watch! It’s that easy!
Dexter will just be the new voice. Probably more present than his sister and father,
Not interested in another season following Harrison at all. You should have included “none of the above” in your poll.
I know you had to throw it in, but you almost lost a whole family of Dexter fans with the political aspect. We stuck with it and pulled others along insisting that it got better, thankfully it did. I’d watch Harrison with a Harry-like Dexter but wouldn’t it be great to watch Harrison and a living Dexter?
I love the fact that the right cries & hates everything nowadays that even has the slightest hint of diversity in it. They love to whine and cry and want everything canceled bc it shows what’s going on in the world and the cast isn’t 100% white and straight! You might as well stop watching and go to a MAGA/KKK rally instead bc it’s not changing. The world is changing and for the better!
The RIGHT cries and hates everything nowadays the even has the slightest hint of diversity in it? that is lol funny. Look at colleges. Look at who is behind the cancel culture
Yet it’s the right who seems to cry and hate even more so these days. Go to any show with diversity on IMDb and the right hates everything with diversity. They cry about every show being “woke”. Most don’t even watch a second of it but if it has diversity they cry about it. It’s the right who hates everything and everyone these days.
Same!!!
I’d give it a shot but I think that should be it. I don’t understand how anyone would choose Dexter survived. That would be real cheesey. Story was made for him to go, almost a passing of the torch. Although didn’t seem like Harrison wanted it at the end so I can’t see how a second season would go
Loved Dexter New Blood. Great job of bringing the show back to life. I would absolutely watch season two etc. I think there was lots of room for more storylines. I do think the show must have Michael C Hall alive. Though Harrisons character was excellent I don’t believe the show could sustain him alone and Dexter as the dark passenger.

Agreed, surviving that would be cheesy, but there was no option for “Dexter isn’t Dexter without Dexter”. I’m guessing quite a few people picked that option as the only way of saying, “If Dexter is gone, the series is done”. I know I did.
I’d love to see it continue with Dexter playing the part that his father did with Dexter. Guiding him along and giving him pointers on how to choose his victims. Harrison, definitely, has a dark side that will probably come out more and more. In fact, “Dark Passenger” would be a great title.
Harrison has a dark side yes, but he’s not a murderer. He’s a kid with childhood trauma and daddy issues.
He was so happy when Dexter told him the truth because he longed for that connection. His vulnerability allowed him to think he was just like Dexter. Thing is tho, he’s not and probably will never be. By having Dexter essentially give him permission to kill his father, Harrison was set free. He understands everything about himself now. I don’t think his darkness will control him
He’s pretty damn close. Look what he did to that kid at school, and was smart enough to plan the entire thing and then blame it on the kid he almost killed.
Certainly ruined his life.
I watched Dexter from day one and was so excited to have some excellent tv to watch! I was saddened to see Dexter be killed off , but like Psycho series I will definitely watch season 2.

The finale was a bit underwhelming but it ended Dexter’s story well enough that I have no desire to see any more. And even if the Harrison actor was charismatic enough to carry his own show, it was made pretty clear that he didn’t really have that same serial killer drive as Dexter, and was more just a typical angry kid. So I don’t see that going anywhere.
It’s done. Its not Dexter without Dexter
I urge fans to think about the way WE the audience was kept at arms length in this episode. Usually we hear dexters thoughts but we hardly got that, season 8 he looked into the camera as Goodbye. We didnt get a goodbye. I believe dexter woke up and managed to survive.
This is a show about Dexter not Harrison
We were kept at arms length because this was finally reality for him. He didn’t wanna hear it. He shut Deb right up. And idk, we got way more of a goodbye than we did last time, that was a nothing ending where nothing happened and that was that. I have gripes, but nowhere remotely near the original. So much better.
No, no, no and no
End it now. This was, for all it’s flaws, a better ending IMO than the original series.
.
I don’t see Dexter in the Deb/Harry role as being a good thing, because he’s never been apologetic about what he did. Harry and Deb’s voices served as something of a balance to Dexter, if Dexter was the voice it would feel off unless he was encouraging Harrison to kill.
There’s no Dexter without Dexter (holding the knife).
Huge Dexter fan , season 2 Dexter had a bulletproof vest and he is alive yeaaahhhh
No desire for a season 2. I loved Dexter, but found this show a bit underwhelming. Finale, even though felt rushed was enough. Dexter is dead, and following his son would be repetitive.
Uuugh If Mr Hall isn’t alive and killing, I have no desire to watch his son take over the show! What’s the point, it’s not Dexter….that character is what held me to sticking around, and I don’t want to see his ghost giving advice…
I am a huge fan of the Dexter series. New Blood was awesome but I really wanted Dexter to live. I think the young actor that played Harrison did a great job but the show would not be the same without Dexter. I don’t even watch that much TV but when I saw Michael C. Hall on CBS This Morning I knew I had to watch the new show. The show would have went on for many seasons I’m sure. I wish they’d just change it to something like Dexter had a dream but none of the very end happened. If Dexter was a one-time movie, the end would have been fine. But Dexter has become all his fans favorite serial killer and we were so excited to have a new show back on.
Love Dexter. I would like to see you get back to Dexter, Dexter made amends to Harrison so there’s no need for Harrison to be in the show . Maybe Dexter can move to London and get a job as a blood spatter analyst there where he can take out the trash . Maybe he can meet another Hannah and fall in love. I would like to see more of the original happy-go-lucky Dexter. Giving Dexter a fresh start in a new land we gave us a revival of the original Dexter.
Loved it!
I actually liked the original series finale. The ending was actually amazing. This season was great… not too big on the ending though. It never really had the tension of the original. It wasn’t bad… just not great.
It was a better ending then the original series, not that it was hard to clear that very low bar. Dexter surviving would be ridiculous, however, the actor that played Harrison was not very charismatic. If they continued with him, the supporting cast would need to be strong. They could put Harrison in a college setting. There are plenty of sociopathic types in academia for him to slash his way through.
Make it all a dream and make Dexter still be alive and get out of all of it with his son!!
Nahhh this had to be all a dream bruh.
