Former Husker Zach Wiegert has been selected as a member of the 2022 College Football Hall of Fame class.Wiegert, a Fremont, Nebraska, native, will be the 20th Husker to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Nebraska is one of 12 programs with 20 or more players in the hall of fame. Most recently, Millard North grad Eric Crouch was inducted in 2020."Zach Wiegert was a great player at Nebraska during the 1990s. Zach was very intelligent and was also very aggressive and athletic," Tom Osborne, who coached Wiegert at Nebraska, said in a statement. "He stood out as an exceptional offensive lineman among many who played on our offensive lines during that period. I am pleased that he has received Hall of Fame recognition as he is certainly most deserving of this honor."Wiegert was an All-American on Nebraska's 1994 national championship team and won the Outland Trophy. His No. 72 jersey was retired before the 1995 season. "Zach was one of the most competitive and toughest linemen I have seen. He would never back down from any challenge," Tommie Frazier, who was Wiegert's teammate at NU, said in a statement. "I am pleased to see him join the fraternity of Nebraska players in the College Football Hall of Fame."Wiegert was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the second round of the 1995 NFL draft and played 12 seasons in the NFL for the Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. The 2022 class will be inducted on Dec. 6, 2022.
