Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is set to launch later this month and technical director Bruno Lalonde speaking with MP1st has revealed the target resolutions and framerates for the different platforms it will be available on.

The game on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is targeting 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with HDR, while on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One the target is 1080p at 30 frames per second. The target on high-end PCs is to run at up to 120 frames per second.

"For old-gen consoles, we are aiming at 30fps solid at 1080p," said Lalonde. "Next-gen is at 60fps, which is at 4K, HDR, and it will run up to 120fps on high-end PCs."

It was also announced last week the game will launch on Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC, and Cloud on day one.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna on January 20, 2022.

No shade against VG Chartz, they're presumably just reading it from the press release, but surely this is an error:

"The game on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is targeting 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with HDR, while on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One the target is 1080p at 30 frames per second."

I very much doubt it's 4K@60 on both Series X and Series S. More likely, if the last-gen consoles are targeting 1080p@30, that the Series S is targeting something like 1440p@30 and/or 1080p@60.

You may well be right. I’ve looked on other publications and whilst the targets are mentioned for current gen, last gen and PC version the Series S is not mentioned at all.

All that said, it is POSSIBLE that it's true. It's possible that they're targeting 4K@60 for both Series X and Series S. If so, they'd have dramatically different draw distances and other levels of detail (LoD) between the two versions!

Not exactly the same thing, but while many backwards compatible titles are higher frame-rate and/or higher-res on Series X, there are a few that are the same resolution and same frame-rate on both Series X and S.

Also not exactly the same thing, but the Quality mode and Performance modes of Forza Horizon 5 on Series X are both 4K, but one is a higher frame rate and the other is higher LoD.

Developers are experimenting with new paradigms, so it's truly not impossible that they'd experiment with 4K@60 on both, with dramatically higher LoD on the Series X. But I personally doubt that's the approach they took. :)
