Development of a rumoured reboot of the Twisted Metal series has taken another turn today, as it emerges the game may no longer be in the hands of Destruction AllStars studio Lucid Games.
That’s according to Video Games Chronicle, citing its own insider sources. The developer was reported back in September to have been handed the reins on a supposed reboot of Twisted Metal. The hope, it was claimed at the time, was to release a new game in time for an upcoming TV series scheduled for 2023.
However, according to VGC’s sources, the game has now been taken out of their hands. Instead they claim development will now be handled by one of PlayStation’s other first party studios in Europe. A reason hasn’t been offered for the decision to take the game away from Lucid Games.
Unfortunately, these sources also haven’t disclosed which studio specifically has gotten the Twisted Metal gig. PlayStation’s European studios include Firesprite, Guerrilla, London Studio, Nixxes or Media Molecule. However, the first two may be busy with the Horizon series, with Forbidden West next month and their recently-announced collaboration on PSVR2 entry Horizon Call of the Mountain.
There’s been no comment from PlayStation or Lucid Games at the time of writing. The last Twisted Metal game came all the way back in 2012, for the PlayStation 3.
