Sendhil Ramamurthy is bringing his heroic charm to Good Sam.
TVLine can exclusively reveal that Ramamurthy, whose previous TV credits include Heroes, Never Have I Ever and Covert Affairs, will appear on CBS‘ freshman medical drama in the recurring role of Asher Pyne, Vivian’s (Wendy Crewson) new spouse who is also a licensed therapist. Asher is described as “intelligent, serene and centered” as well as “self-possessed with a sense of humor.”
Pyne will help Vivian navigate the fresh conflict between her daughter, Dr. Sam Griffith (played by Sophia Bush), and ex-husband Dr. Rob “Griff” Griffith (Jason Isaacs) — which won’t been easy, since Sam “called it” as Griff’s daughter in the series premiere, and is only agreeing to work with him on a professional level. See more photos of Ramamurthy as Asher Pyne down below.
Ramamurthy’s first appearance will be in Episode 3, airing Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 10/9c. That hour will be directed by Gina Rodriguez, reuniting Rodriguez with Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman, who serves as executive producer on the CBS drama.
Good Sam follows Sam, a gifted heart surgeon who thrived in her new leadership role as the chief of surgery after Griff, her boss who is also a renowned doctor, fell into a coma. Now that Griff has woken up, months later, demanding to resume his duties, Sam grapples with surviving an egotistical expert who never acknowledged her talent — and who also happens to be her father.

He always breaks my heart never stays long enough on the damn show
I feel bad for him joining a doomed series as he’s such a good actor. He did a fine job as Bloodwork on The Flash.
Right? I remember him as Gabe on Beauty and The Beast – the beast I loved to hate. lol
Wasn’t a big fan of episode one. Had never seen the lead actress before. Pretty young lady. Loved the Demi Moore-like raspy voice.
Jeez, you’ve never seen One Tree Hill or Chicago PD?
Nope, sorry.
It’s plausible that he’s never seen One Tree Hill. That was a WB (then CW) show aimed at teenage girls from 2003-2012. It was a hit for the WB/CW, but it’s not like it was a MASSIVE hit that everyone would have seen.
I’ve always liked him. Hoping they prove me wrong, but the huge age difference between he and Crewson feels distracting. When I first saw this I thought he was coming on as another potential for Sam.
Hopefully they address it on the show. I know older women marry younger men all the time but he is closer to Sophia’s age. Geez.
I love this! I only know him from Beauty and the Beast and The Flash and he was great on both shows. I really hope this show lasts because it does have great potential.
I think this show is doomed, unless it significantly improves in the Live+7 premiere ratings, increases in the Live+SD ratings every week and does REALLY WELL in the Live+7 ratings from here on out. Otherwise, it’s pretty much done. CSI: Vegas had a weaker lead-in all fall, yet achieved stronger numbers – ESPECIALLY in the Live+7 numbers. It actually held up pretty well against Chicago P.D. Good Sam did not.
This show would’ve been better off as a paramount plus exclusive. Cbs has been trying to launch a medical show for years and it never sticks.
I apologize for this being off topic but it bothered me they never gave his characters proper closure on heroes or the flash and left it open ended, idk why that is.
Love Sendhil! He’s always a welcomed sight on my tv.
I love Sophia Bush, which is why I initially watched this show, and was pleasantly surprised – it was better than I expected. Like a funnier House. I know the premier ratings weren’t great, I hope the live+7 are better, she deserves a new show.
I like Jason Isaacs and Sophia Bush but the first episode of this just felt like House Lite (right down to the Lupus gag).
Can’t see myself tuning in further if Sendil is joining as never really been a fan of his work.
I don’t see this one getting past the initial episode order tbh.
Well… that’s one way to get me to stick around a little longer…
I love Sendhil Ramamurthy. I’d watch anything that he’s in as long as he has a good part and the show stays on a long time.
Ramamurthy is wonderful and joining a cast of some talented actors, but the ratings for Good Sam are not very good. I watched the first two episodes and don’t care for the show. The premise is contrived and the bickering between father and daughter gets old.
He is very good looking…but this show is a waste. A waste of the best and only interesting thing on it…Wendy Crewson. She seems out of her depth here which is to say the show is beneath her.
