Listen up, Euphoria fans. Season three is coming! After season two came to an end with that series finale, we've been dying to find out what will happen next for our favourite characters like Rue, Cassie and Nate. Plus, will Tom Holland ever make a surprise cameo?

So, here's everything we know so far about Euphoria season three, from the rumoured release date to the cast, trailer and more.

Euphoria season 3 cast news

While some of the lead cast unfortunately won't be returning for Euphoria season 3, we can expect many of the characters we know and love to take centre stage again:

  • Zendaya as Rue
  • Hunter Schafer as Jules
  • Sydney Sweeney as Cassie
  • Alexa Demie as Maddy
  • Jacob Elordi as Nate
  • Maude Apatow as Lexie

Jacob Elordi has recently aired his concerns about season three, particularly that he could be growing out of his teen jock character, Nate Jacobs. Speaking on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, he said: "I hope [filming is] soon, otherwise they're going to have to Benjamin Button me or something. I'm going to have, like, a bad back, walking down the hallway.

"I'm assuming that we're going to have to go forward," he said, referencing a potential time jump. "Otherwise it's going to seem like a weird bit."

Dominic Fike, who played Elliot in season two, has also shared that he isn't sure if he'll return for another season. He told Variety that rejoining the show “would be dope,” but noted: “I don’t really talk to them anymore.”

Heartbreakingly, Angus Cloud who played Fezco died from an accidental drug overdose in July 2023, aged just 25, meaning his character won't appear in season three.

Barbie Ferreira also revealed Cat won't be back for season three of the show, too. In an emotional Instagram post, she wrote, "After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I'm having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye.

"I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you, Katherine Hernandez."

Euphoria season 3 release date speculation

Finally, a release date for season three of Euphoria has been confirmed! But, we have a while to wait until we see Rue, Maddie and Cassie on our screens again. HBO boss, Casey Bloys, announced at a press event that the new season will air in 2025. That's two years away, Euphoria fans.

This comes after HBO's head of drama, Francesca Orsi, also confirmed a two-year wait for the series due to creator Sam Levinson's commitment to The Idol (which has been cancelled for future seasons), Zendaya’s packed schedule and 2023's writers strikes.

"Euphoria is one of those that we had begun writing in tandem with post-production on Idol but at this point, we don’t have countless scripts," Francesca told Deadline. "We can't start shooting, so the delivery of that show — ideally in 2025 — will be determined on when we can pick back up with Sam, who at this point is all pencils down and just finishing posts on The Idol."

In March 2024, Sydney Sweeney told MTV that after promoting her new film Immaculate, she was heading straight to the set for Euphoria. "You’re going to take a little time off after all this madness?" the host asked, to which Sydney responded: "I go into Euphoria."

What might happen in Euphoria season 3?

Euphoria season two ended with a lot of cliffhangers, leaving fans wondering whether Fezco and Ashtray are still alive and what the future of Maddy and Cassie's friendship looks like. Unfortunately, following the tragic news that Angus Cloud died from an accidental drug overdose last year, Fezco won't be in future episodes.

Separately, Zendaya (who plays the lead Rue) revealed a few more details about season three in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "It’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school," she told them in August 2022.

"I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look. But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be."

The actor continued, "What was special about [season two] was that we got to dive into [the other characters] in a much deeper sense. I think we can do that again with the third season. There’s so much talent, you want to make sure everybody has the chance to have that."

Jacob Elordi, who plays Nate, has also teased a time jump for the characters. "I'm assuming that we're going to have to go forward," he said, "otherwise it's going to seem like a weird bit."

When was Euphoria season 3 confirmed?

As of 4th February 2022, HBO and Euphoria revealed a third instalment of the show was officially coming, and we obviously couldn't be happier. A tweet on the official account read, "#EUPHORIA has been renewed for season 3."

Considering how popular the first two seasons were, with Zendaya even scooping up an Emmy for her leading performance, it's hardly surprising a third season is happening. But still, fans are ecstatic!

With the third season, HBO followed the same pattern as they did with season two, by announcing it while the prior season was still running. That is to say, the second season of Euphoria was confirmed while the first season was still running in July 2019.
