Elden Ring Becomes Steam's Most Wish-Listed Game

FromSoftware's upcoming action RPG Elden-Ring is kicking-off 2022 with excitement by becoming Steam's most wanted upcoming release.

As Eurogamer pointed out, Elden Ring, which is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and includes story elements by A Song of Ice and Fire novelist George R.R. Martin, has become Steam's most wishlisted game.

Elden Ring's climb to the top of Steam's wishlist rankings marks the end of a 12-month unbeaten stream from Techland's Dyling LIght 2: Stay Human, which held the top spot throughout 2021.

Other games on the list include the PC release for Santa Monica Studios' God of War, FNTASTIC's upcoming post-apocalyptic open-world MMO, The Day Before, and Recreate Games' multiplayer physics brawler Party Animals.

As the release date for Elden Ring comes close, George R.R. Martin talked about his time working on the game. In a Dec. 18 blog post, Martin explained that when Miyazaki and other game designers from FromSoftware had pitched the idea of Elden Ring to him, he thought the offer "too exciting to refuse".

"Miyazaki and his team from FromSoftware were doing groundbreaking stuff with gorgeous art, and what they wanted from me was just a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create," Martin said. "And as it happens, I love creating worlds and writing imaginary history."
