The Bottom Line: What is a Maverick? The 2022 Maverick is a brand new pickup truck being built by the Ford Motor Company. It’s a compact truck that slot’s just below the Ford Ranger PU truck, and it starts Ford’s return to the true compact pickup truck market. It features an easy on the budget, base window sticker starting price of only $19,995, and it is one of the least expensive vehicles you can buy from any manufacturer in the USA.

Ford’s adding to its huge pickup truck portfolio with the 2022 Maverick. Positioned below the midsize Ranger in the Blue Oval’s truck hierarchy, the compact Maverick PU is built on the same unibody platform as the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport SUV.

Ford’s latest pickup truck is making headlines for its standard hybrid powertrain, impressive estimated fuel economy, and it’s low starting price. FWD front wheel drive is standard and Ford also offers AWD all wheel drive, but only with the optional non-hybrid turbocharged 2.0L liter 4 cylinder engine.

Standard power comes from Ford’s innovative fourth generation hybrid propulsion system, which includes an all new 191 HP horsepower 2.5L liter Atkinson cycle hybrid 4 cylinder gas engine, with an electronic automatic CVT continuously variable transmission. Estimated gas mileage with this drive train is 40+ MPG miles per gallon.

This week Ford sent me a 2022 Maverick Lariat FWD pickup truck to test drive and review. This base window sticker Lariat model starts at $25,490. The options on the press truck are: the floor liner mats for $135, and the Ford Co-Pilot 360 for $540. The total MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,495 destination charge, is: $27,660. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the total out the door and in your driveway purchase price came to: $31,118.

Every 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat comes with Equipment Group 500A. This package offers LED headlamps with signature lighting, a 6.5″ LED instrument cluster screen, and Intelligent Access with push button start.

The Lariat Edition adds many of the same goodies from the XLT version, and it also includes an 8 speaker premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, a wireless charging pad, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering steering, evasive steering assist, rear parking sensors and Ford’s Sync 3 safety system.

When you buy a base Maverick pickup truck, with no options, the price starts at only $19,995, plus the destination charge of $1,495. Add in the sales tax and DMV fees and it will cost you only $24,177.

At just over $24 Grand all in, it’s a fantastic new vehicle to buy from any manufacturer, and Maverick is a brand new 4 door pickup truck, with a 1,500 pound payload, and it gets over 40 MPG on regular gas. What America always needed was a good $25,000 pickup truck, and now we have one, with the all new for 2022 Ford Maverick.

But will the Ford Maverick hold its value? The Maverick is a compact truck, and with the current truck market, the Maverick should hold its value for a very long time. That’s why the Maverick is such a great buy with a starting price of only $19,995, as many pickup trucks start in the $30,000 to $35,000, or more range, at the base window sticker price.

So, what are the standard features in a 2022 Ford Maverick? An 8.0-inch touch screen infotainment system is standard on all Maverick trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard features, and even the base model comes with an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Options include SiriusXM satellite radio, a spray in bed liner, plus remote and intelligent start.

To make you sleep better at night the Maverick is covered with a 3 year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, and a 5 year / 60,000 powertrain warranty. Plus you get 5 years / 60,000 mile roadside assist coverage, and the hybrid motor, battery and related electrical components are covered for 8 years and 100,000 miles. This is great coverage for a car, and even better coverage as Maverick is a truck.

When you’re ready to buy a new compact truck, or a car, Maverick should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s the one of the best all new compact vehicles for sale today. Call, click or visit your local Ford dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the all new for 2022 Maverick. And remember that the base window sticker price for a new Ford Maverick pickup truck starts at only $19,995. Maverick – Built Ford Tough.
