DEVOTIONAL GUIDE: Wisdom is seeing God’s point of view

God reveals His wisdom to us in His written Word.

Wisdom – have you found any lately?

One of my common sayings lately is that common sense is not common anymore. It is a new year and we all could use more of God’s wisdom for whatever this year holds.

A Bible teacher years ago defined wisdom as seeing life from God’s perspective. Don’t you wish you had God’s viewpoint? Because He sees the whole picture from beginning to end.

As a school bus driver, I have had a few situations where I could not really determine who was telling the truth. But buses have cameras in them, and I just have to go to the video and see and hear what really happened. God has a perfect view of all things, even the deepest darkest secrets of our heart.

God asked Solomon what he wanted, and he answered, “Wisdom to govern the people.” God gave him wisdom and riches and fame and blessed his kingdom. People came from all over the world to seek his wisdom. He wrote some of his wisdom down for us to learn from.

Proverbs 1:1-3 gives us Solomon’s purpose for writing the book: “The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity.”

Why is it that so many people don’t seek knowledge, wisdom or understanding? It seems some people just want to think what they want to think, and they don’t want anyone to tell them what they don’t want to hear. In my opinion, a teachable attitude is one of the most important factors in a person’s life.

Solomon goes on to describe wisdom calling out to us: “Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses; at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words: ‘How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. Turn at my rebuke; surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you’” (Proverbs 1:20-23).

Those who refuse to seek wisdom are labeled as simpletons, scorners, and fools. God says if you turn at God’s rebuke, He will pour out His Spirit and will make His words known to you. If we want God’s perspective, we have to turn from our selfish ways and listen to His wisdom.

Much of God’s viewpoint is revealed to us through His written Word. God will pour out His Spirit on you and will show you His Word.

Many today are being confused by the multitudes of messages we hear day in and day out. Those who don’t turn to the Lord will be deceived and confused and filled with fear. God has told us what His plan is, and we will do well to trust Him and follow Him at whatever the cost.
