Dwayne Johnson's upcoming Christmas movie is going to give festive fun a special Guardians of the Galaxy style twist, producer Hiram Garcia has revealed.
Garcia, who is president of production at Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions company, has told Collider that Red One, which is being worked on with Amazon Studios, will be a "big Christmas movie", which is being directed by Jumanji director Jake Kasdan and which the team are "very fired up about".
Although no plot details have been revealed about Red One just yet, Garcia has teased that we can expect to see a real twist on the festive movie genre.

"What I can tell you is that it is a very big Christmas movie," he said. "We've always wanted to do a Christmas movie, but we didn't want to do the typical Christmas movies that tend to go a little bit broader, I think, in tone.
"We had been looking for something that matched, the tone and tenor of DJ (Dwayne Johnson) and what DJ brings to the table, so was able to come up with a really fun Christmas idea, but in tone it's much more of a Hobbs & Shaw, more of Guardians of the Galaxy in tone and vibe because you're dealing with crazy mythological elements, turning a lot of tropes we know about the holidays on their head, but also really big action and globe-trotting."
It certainly sounds like this won't be a quiet and cosy Christmas movie, with Garcia promising that we will have our understanding of festive mythology turned upside down by the film.
"One of the things that we like about this project is that we can't find a comp for a Christmas movie that's ever been made like this or one that matches the tone and scale of what it's going to be, so that feels exciting for us to do something that hasn't been done before," he said.

"As we're hashing it out with Jake Kasdan and Chris Morgan, we're just getting more and more excited at how we're going to turn all this fun mythology that people know so well on its head but in a really cool way that is always going to make the holidays feel even more good and more real."
Garcia also confirmed that we can expect to see the movie during "the holidays of 2023" if all goes to plan, saying: "We are full speed ahead over here getting things going, as we have a lot of world-building to do and a lot of storytelling to complete."
Following the success of the similarly named Red Notice, anticipation for Johnson's next red-inspired movie is likely to be high.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1 and vol 2 are available now.
