Montreal Canadiens prospect Sean Farrell somehow fell to the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Well, the reason he fell to the fourth round is because of his size and had nothing to do with his immense talent.

Farrell is 5’9″ but what he lacks in size he more than makes up for with skill. Never has the NHL been more welcome for players that are under six feet tall, and Farrell is poised to take advantage of that fact in the near future.

He was taken with the 124th overall pick in that 2020 draft, and is already among the top scorers in college hockey in points per game. After another two points performance last night, Farrell is up to eight goals, 11 assists and 19 points in 13 games for Harvard.

Farrell is a freshman this season, electing to play an extra year of USHL hockey last season when Harvard chose not to play in the 2020-21 season due to the global pandemic. The Habs prospect made the most of his extra year of Junior by scoring 101 points in 53 games for the Chicago Steel.

This season, he is the top scoring freshman in the NCAA with 1.46 points per game. He is a dangerous player offensively and he showed it again last night, helping his team to a 4-1 win.

In the first period, it was Farrell who got the scoring started by grabbing a loose puck along the boards, cutting directly into the slot, avoiding several defensive players and firing a wrist shot past the goaltender.

Farrell’s best quality is his creativity and playmaking. He has incredible vision with the puck and makes passes that just shouldn’t be possible to make. He added an assist last night, but it wasn’t one of his most incredible plays of the year.

Farrell played pitch and catch with a teammate on the far side of the ice, but he did cut to the middle to make it look like he would shoot before sliding the puck back to Nick Abruzzese who one-timed it home. The goaltender overplayed Farrell a bit, thinking he was going to try and replicate the opening goal, but his quick pass made it impossible for the goalie to stop the one-timer.

It really wasn’t a big night for Farrell’s highlight reel tape, as he has far better clips for that, but he got the job done and added two more points in a big for Harvard.
